Will plasterboard hold it?

Just wondering if a plasterboard wall will hold a 92" screen up, weight around 10-11kg??

Re: Will plasterboard hold it?

Hi mate,

In an ideal world it would be nice if the brackets landed on a stud but if not, I would probably try to cut a slot out behind where the screen body goes and get a couple of noggins in, or at worst case cut a small slot out and insert a strip of plywood behind the plasterboard to fix to. a lot of screens will fix up to the ceiling too if thats an option for you and providing you land on a ceiling joist.

Its not just the wieght either to be honest, you have the stress of the screen being pulled down too to think of.

hope this helps

Re: Will plasterboard hold it?

If it were me, I'd get one of those 'stud detectors' and screw a base of MDF to the wall via the studs. I would also use liquid nails to be 100%. Then simple screw the brackets to the MDF using size 10 screws.
Make sure the MDF is smaller than the footprint of the base but not so small that the brackets overlap it!
You could even recess the screws, fill the holes and paint the MDF the same colour as your wall.

Re: Will plasterboard hold it?

I mounted my 134" Carada on a sound proofed wall (stud, insulation and 3 lays of soundblock) I used 12mm MDF mounting boards srewed with plasterboard fixings and adhesive to the wall. Then used the 12mm MDF as the mounting base. The Carada screen has lng brackets with a lo of screw holes. Works fine
