Goo Systems

hi all

im about to mount my panny ax100e and deciding on whether to fix a screen or go for painted wall.

painting would give me a bigger screen size 120x67 inches and i thought a painted wall would be a cheaper option.

using Goo Systems its recommended i need the following for £233.09:

Topcoat:
1000 mL + 500 mL of Digital Grey Topcoat - 4184, 4185

Basecoat:
1000 mL + 500 mL of Digital Grey Basecoat - 4417, 4179

is it really worth the price, over just painting the wall white/grey?

The Goo paints are quite overrated and extremely expensive compared to DIY alternatives. The gain values for their mixes are also very much in question since their inventor admits to thinking that taking those readings in the industry-accepted manner gives incorrect results and has established his own method.

Goo CRT White is a very neutral white paint, but you folks in the UK already have those in regular Dulux paints. The stated 1.8 gain of the CRT White was found to be only 1.0 or 1.1 (I forget which) when tested properly.

The actual gain figures for the Goo gray paints haven't been determined yet by accepted standards, but they have been found to be lacking in color neutrality (they push blue).

Your PJ is a bright one even at your 138" diagonal screen size. If you could mount it 14 feet from the screen you would still have 18 fL. of image brightness.

I would give a serious look at Black Widow U.K. as a DIY screen mix; while a tad darker than Goo Digital Gray it is much more neutral and far less expensive.

I tried two Goo screens and wasn't impressed with either. If you want a diy grey solution check out BW. Otherwise, check out dulux brilliant white which I found to be significantly better than Goo.
