Which is the better Screen?

Hi,

Which of these would be the better screen to buy?

108" Diagonal
Impact Screen Solutions: Othelloline Home Theatre Screens - In Ceiling Range

or

105" Diagonal
Beamax | in ceiling projector screens

Both are more or less the same money..

Thanks,
Mike.

Re: Which is the better Screen?

I cannot quote on the Othelloline but I would say never trust a company that uses false images to portray a better picture. None of the screens shown on the link you provided are real so not to be trusted (none of the screens they show are live within the environments).

Beamax is well known for qood quality so I would chose Beamax over the other as all the images are real so offer the truth.

Another for you to concider is Screen International. One of the best qualities I've installed to date and competetively priced over other top brands.

Both of the companies that have been mentioned are owned and run by reputable av industry veterans, Otto at Beamax and Dan at ISS.

It seems unfair to say never trust a company based on what an image on their website looks like plus how can you get a true representation of image quality over the internet......

Re: Which is the better Screen?

How can you trust a false image!
At least when you have found the screen you want, retailers like cvsmedia (your link) and probably yourself Stu, can offer those people the best price and advice possible on the products we sell.
Selling something using a false image just offers the opinion the product is not as good as the real picture may predict.

My advice is based on the fact many resellers create images which make the product look better on the 'internet' than it actually is which is unfair on the customers so for a manufacturer to 'Create' an image makes the alarm bells ring.

I do hope they are excellent quality but unless I can see a real image of the screen I have to ask myself why the false image?
Only a suggestion but if you know them so well, have them list a few real images of the screens which I'm sure will eleviate anyone's doubts.

Beamax, as you mention, have 100's of images showing their screens in Real environments so why would Any other manufacturer need to falsify an image?

If the screens are good enough the images would be real
Keep it fair.

Re: Which is the better Screen?

I'm sure the images on the screens are purely for illustration and are not trying to suggest a better finished picture. Who on earth would actually make a buying decision based on a photo of a screen in use??

Anyways for my money it's Beamax. More consistent manufacture (i.e. screens actually turn up the right size and shape) and a quite easy in-ceiling solution

Re: Which is the better Screen?

I would take Nick opinion on board about Beamax and also Saphire screens.
He did sell them , he might still do but to discredit other make simply on the strength of the picture.

Come on Nick aren't you a bit bias.

By all means give the advice but in this instance tell the members why.

I would say never by the screen only looking at the pictures , try dealers that can offer demo facilities ( there is less and less of them , thanks to our obsession with bargain on the internet)

You will upgrade you projector much sooner than your screen, buy what you be happy with.

Re: Which is the better Screen?

You may be right. I'm certainly bias on screens as I have dealt with so many manufacturers who send me samples including screens for me to try or test or with the idea of selling the brand.
Unfortunately for me I have learnt the hard way how manufacturers can portray brilliance yet send me or the customers something lets say, 'less desireable'?.
Try sending a load of screens back, especially across sea's, that you don't want because they are not of the quality described or in some circumstances guaranteed, especially when the argument boils down to:
Hey', it's white isnt it? It works doesn't it? Because that's all you get from some makes and when your customers are sending screens back to you because they have a slight irritating wave or blemish or peeling black borders or noisey motors etc which both myself and other resellers have to endure, in todays financial climate, we just cannot afford those mistakes.

But you are right. I am bias. Sorry !
