Fed up and need help. Updated.

Thanks for reading this,

I moved into my new place 6 months ago installed my HD65 thinking i'd have no problems with a screen turns out i'm having major problems with christmas and the likely hood of people coming over i need to get it sorted ASAP.

The Pj is approx 6m away from the Projection wall, the roof has a sloped roof.
Acording to Projector Central my Screen is
H208cm / 82"
W371cm / 146"

But theres a window in the middle i did think fixed frame but that wont do as i need access to the window so i need some kind of roller screen thinking either horizontal with a drop down or a vertical with a pull across screen only thing is the ones i've found cost arount £1000 and i cant afford that i've tried covering the window with material but the image contast is so differant and the screens not flat because of the window ledge Please some one help its sending me mad.

Thank you in advance to those that reply.

Re: Fed up and need help.

I would love to help you, but that is one BIG screen you want! I don't know of any retractable screens that size.

I just found this one from Elite screens, but I don't know the cost.
Manual Series

I just found one of these for only $299 USD with free shipping, but this is in the U.S.

or try calling Elite direct.

so i cant afford a screen this size (167") as it would have to be custom made big bucks so have re-evaluated the size due to recommendations of height off the floor etc as it was going to be literally floor to ceiling no room for speakers.

New Settings
H 66" / 168cm
W 118" / 299cm
D 135" / 343cm
Ceiling drop 12.6" / 32cm
Screen Gain Set to 1.0
Distance for screen 4.84m / 15' 11"

my new size is 135" / 299cm thinking motorised long term so need good recommendations for places to buy, need to do a search but in order whats the best materials for screen glass bead, matte etc

found thisdoing a quick search, any one got a better one for sale?

A little lateral thiking.

How about a fixed frame screen that you take up and down when needed?

Of course, you need somewhere to put it, but it might be an option.

DaLite (Da-Lite Screen Company) offer a range of standard screen (manual and electric) that may be close. I think their closes standard HDTV size is 116x65 (133 diagonal). They also offer some basic custom options such as additional drop or wider borders etc.

The best material will be determined by a number of factors. PJ mounting position, viewing distance, viewing cone, room decor/light control, ambient light, PJ lumens/contrast (after calibration) etc. Different screen surfaces can help overcome certain types of issues but may introduce other considerations.

Personally I would consider a smaller screen. Not sure that projector is going to be too happy producing an image that big especially if it's not dedicated room with decent light control. How far do you sit back? At that size on a 720p projector a pixel is 2.9mm wide and tall!

Hi doylie, looking at your stats, id have thought a screen around 2 to 2.5 metres wide max, but i guess its down to personal choice if you dont mind losing a bit of image quality? An Electric screen would be ideal but i guess its down to budget constraints to!

How far do you sit from the screen? With a 1080p projector I wouldn't want to be closer than 1.5x the width of the image with a 720p it's nearer 2x e.g. a 3m wide screen you would want to be about 6m away from to not be making out pixel structure and image artefacts. Better quality sources and video processing reduce this distance so as I say it's only a loose rule of thumb

so the seating would be around 3.5m (more or less middle of room) from the screen (could be moved back if needed) so does that mean my screen should only be 175cm wide / 79" Diagonal? it would also mean the projector is infront of the seating postion so should i stick with my 92" and just not bother with a bigger screen.

Would it help if i made a plan of the room for you to look at?

Just found this talks about angles would give it ago but dont have an angle mesure

30deg gives you a 2m wide screen exactly from a 3.5m viewing distance.

If you have most of the kit already try zooming up and over the screen you already have to give you an idea of how it will effect brightness and sharpness. You could probably push to 8ft easily enough (2.4m wide)
