Manual screen - your comments

Re: Roll up manual / electric screen

I concerned about wave, curl on edges over time, as anyone got one and not given them any problems over a long period off time?

It would be going in front off window, so temperature could have an effect in summer and winter seasons.

Deciding between a Beamax manual vs a expensive 'tab-tensioned' electric (dont sell manual for some reason) alternative.

I could save some money going for the first option. Any advice would be great

thanks
rai

Re: Manual screen - your comments

I have a Beamax R-Series Slow Retraction 169 (244cm x 142cm) manual screen.

I've had it about 12-18 months, I use it around once a week, and so far have had no problems - it still looks dead flat.

Whether that'll change over time, or with heavier use, I couldn't say.

I have a sapphire parklane manual slow retraction screen, about 12 months old, it does show a little curling at the edges but not anything you really notice when watching films and it doesn't appear to be getting any worse.

Re: Manual screen - your comments

I also have the Beamax R Series manual (10251, same model as Pecker) which has been used on a daily basis for the past six weeks. It's well made, works well, the screen is pretty much flat (slight curl at edges, but not visible in use) and the picture looks good. It also has a very wide angle of viewing, if that's important. For £234 (AV Toad) I think it's a steal. I bought it as a stopgap until I can afford an AT screen with masking, but it does the job to such an extent that I don't feel the same urgency to upgrade now!

Cheers

George

Those are a good price for a first screen, and as you say upgrade in the future to meet your requirements if any.

There is no mention off gain on the site for the Beamax screens, so i assume they are matte white 1.0 only?

Re: Manual screen - your comments

Hi, that's right, matte white 1.0. I'm told that Otto who runs Beamax is very helpful, so it's probably worth enquiring to ask if he can do any other fabrics if you need something different (although that will doubtless push up the price).

Cheers

Re: Manual screen - your comments

If you go for a beamax, I can highly recommend AVpeople 16:9 Manual Pull Down Projector Screens they are very helpful if you've got any queries, and were also by far the cheapest when I bought mine.

is it best to install a 92" manual screen on some hard fixings behind the plasterboard (noggins as the builder referred to them !), or can you use some decent plaster board fixings ?
