Beamax Tab Tensioned!

I'm at last getting round to making my living room the AV enviroment I've wanted all year

I'm going to be going with a Beamax tab tensioned screen and I've got a limited space that the screen has to lower into between the speakers and I'm wondering if the width quoted in the link is the width inc the tensioning as I understand this does add extra width.

Beamax 10607/HC Projection screen

Thanks.

Re: Beamax Tab Tensioned!

Hi Vipers,

The viewable width is 210 cm and the case is 252 cm. The lower bar (that comes out of the case) has the same width, so 252 is the space you need between your speakers.

If you need any other info, please let me know/

Re: Beamax Tab Tensioned!

Hi Vipers/Otto,

I have a similar screen to this myself, but I think the white bottom bar is a big oversight for those (like me) that zoom for 2.35:1. Even with a HD750 the 'black' bar will light it up. If there is a model with a black bottom bar, I'd recommend that instead....I ended up covering mine with self adhesive black 'velvet'. I should have taken some installation pictures first for the Beamax site, but now I've 'modified' it they won't be suitable.

Thanks for the reply Otto, can you make the tab tension screens to custom widths so I can get the exact size I need or do I need to choose between 83" or 95" ?

Also do the screens come with all the electrics and the remote control that is required for the operation of the screen?

Thats a really good point Kelvin, I've never noticed that before, I could see that getting annoying, I guess its to do with the aesthetics of the unit when its closed, I guess it could be white along the bottom but black on the top side, if white is the only option it looks like I may be getting some more black velvet

Not very good quality picture, but you can see the velvet addition compared to the image you linked to.

Re: Beamax Tab Tensioned!

@Kelvin

I like hacks, so why not for screens. If you send me some pictures - with the screen hacked and all - I'll make sure we use them.
I am working on a "best of DIY" guide (see this post: Don't know where to start? Get a free 6 step guide
Make sure to include your account number and sort code in the mail, so I can wire you the m oney.

@Kelvin and @vipers (and @anyone with the same issue)

We have done screens with a white case and a black lower bar for customers with the exact same issue. So Vipers, if that's an option you want, let me know, it's free of charge.

We have velvet that we use for our A-velvets, which is self-adhesive. This is even better than a painted (or for the M-tensioned: black extrusion). We haven't offered a Beamax-made version yet, but I'll look into it. Vipers, if you want, I can make yours the fist (again at no extra cost).

I know people (like Kelvin) have been DIY'ing/ hacking their screen to this higher level, so:
- If you're a Beamax owner and you want this, let me know and you can get the material in a tube, free of charge (yep, that includes free shipping).
- If you have a different screen, you can get the velvet free of charge too, but we'll charge shipping only. Also, this is a forum offer only, so please let me know your username on the forum.

@Vipers
As for custom sizes, yes, it's no problem and it's not going to cost you more. We just charge the price of the nearest bigger screen size.

Thanks,

Otto

Re: Beamax Tab Tensioned!

Thanks for the feedback and kind offers Otto.

It looked like I was going to be limited in the size of screen as I mentioned before but we are going to experiment moving the room around next weekend to see if we can accomadate a bigger screen, as soon as I know the outcome I'll be in touch to place my order

Thanks again.

Re: Beamax Tab Tensioned!

Hi Otto,

I've re-arranged my room to fit a bigger screen in, if I went for the 95" Tab Tensioned how long would delivery be?

Also would you recommend a gain of 1 or 1.5 for a living room condition, I'm thinking a gain of 1 would be fine as I'm very keen on achieving the best black level possible.

Thanks.

Re: Beamax Tab Tensioned!

OK, my stick-on velvet arrived yesterday - thanks Otto!

I tried to take some before screenshots but, although clearly visible to the naked eye, the white bar did not show up on the image. So no point posting before and after screenshots as you cannot see the difference - but it is much better with the velvet on.

Here are before and after shots of the screen under normal room lights and a close up of the applied velvet:

Re: Beamax Tab Tensioned!

Now that is a big improvement.

I'm glad you got good service from Beamax as I'm having trouble getting hold of anyone at Beamax, including Otto, I was ready to order my Tab Tensioned screen but I think I'll wait till after Xmas now.

Ooh - that does look good doesn't it!

Haven't received mine yet, but that might be because I haven't got my screen yet!

Was it easy to put on?

Yes, no problem at all. It comes in double width so you need to split it down the middle first and apply it in two parts. I found I needed to peel back about 60cm backing at a time and line it up before letting it touch, then carfeully press the top edge into position whilst keeping the rest clear. Once I have the full legnth on I went back and carefully pressed it on from top to bottom. Finally trimmed off the excess with a new razor blade by running it against the back of the bar.

Beamax 10501 screen with hacks

Hi Otto,
I am interested in your A velvet screen 92" diagonal for my JVC HD750. If I opt for the 16:9 format, is it possible to obtain some velvet material to help create some black out areas for a wider screen format?

Apologies if these are basic questions but I am just in the process of
converting a room to a home cinema and I am a home cinema virgin.

Any advice or assurance on creating the black out bars would be appreciated

Hi Sammyez,

I am not sure what you would like to achieve?

Do you want to stick the velvet material to the screen itself? Or apply it to the wall?

We have the material available, but I want to make sure I understand what you would like to do.

Thanks,

Otto
