DIY white or grey screen material

We're looking for some white or grey screen material - not sure which, yet. If it's white we'll just want standard 1.0 gain.

We'll be able to build the frame ourselves, but want to keep it as cheap as possible.

Advice? Cheers.

Hi Pecker,

Why not try black out cloth, your local fabric shop might, if you are lucky have light grey not white, perfect for most living room set ups.

I did this and have to say I don't get any upgraditis when I see commercial screens.

You haven't recently purchased a PT AE 3000 have you?

No. This is for a potential school AV room, but the 3000 (or the 4000) may be in the running.

Very roughly, what sort of price are we looking at for 2m x 4m?

Not sure which aspects you have in mind?

Anyway, you would be limited to 1.5m high x however wide you wanted.

Black out cloth normally runs @ 54" (will stretch to 1.5m) & £5/m. You can special order wider not sure how much though, you would need to ask in store.

I suppose I'll need a bit of 'slack' at each end for wrapping round the edge of the screen frame.

My home screen is 131cm tall, and I'd not like to go shorter than that. That makes a 2.35:1 screen 308cm wide, for which I'd maybe go to 350cm. That makes it only £17.50. NICE ONE!
