Question for those who have screens bigger than recommended size

Hi, just got my first projector and was intending to build a 106” or 110” 2:40:1 screen.
Currently projecting onto a blue wall at size mentioned above, so it gives me about 87” widescreen keeping CIH. After my first night viewing my eyes where a wee bit strained if I looked away from the image, but fine when I looked back (maybe to do with the fact I am not using a proper screen). I am guessing this is normal when getting used to using a projector for the first time, is it?
Also, leading on from this, I know everyone says go big, the calculators say at my throw of 4.2 m I should use a 100”, I can use a 110”, but ideal sitting position for 110” would be 4.4m. Question I am trying to ask is, if I go big am I damaging my eyes, just a bit concerned after my first nights viewing.

Re: Question for those who have screens bigger than recommended size

My guess is that you won't do permanent damage to your eyes by watching your current "screen", but it being blue instead of white or gray will cause eye strain since your brain is trying to do a type of "auto color correction" called chromatic adaptation.

I'll have to go against popular opinion and conventional wisdom and say that I prefer a smaller screen that what is normally recommended. I don't like a screen so large that I have to be constantly moving my head from left-to-right and back again to see the whole image. I look like I'm watching a tennis match! Also, it gives me a headache.

Interesting, makes sense, cheers Harpmaker.

Re: Question for those who have screens bigger than recommended size

I am using a 2.65m wide 2.35:1 Beamax fixed screen, which gives just over 110" diagonal, with a 3m viewing distance with a PTAE3000, as far as I'm concerned it gives a great cinematic experience.

Last timeI visited a multiplex it left me slightly underwhelmed
