Black Widow UK on sealed plastered wall

Hi

I've built myself a 'shed'. It's really only a shed in name, but for planning purposes that's what it will be called to anyone who asks.

It's 8 metres long by 4 metres wide (well the half I've made into my cinema room), fully insulated (top, sides and bottom), plastered boarded, plastered and is completely light controlled. There are no external light sources and I have painted the room with a matt Dulux paint called Potters Wheel (what nonsense!).

I have left one wall unpainted - the one I will be projecting onto, and would like to know if Black Widow UK mix will be suitable for painting onto the sealed plaster (I sealed the plaster with a very watered down Dulux Matt White)?

I am not sure exactly what projector I will be using (I've owned PTax100 & 200 before but I'm never buying Panasonic again, but that's a different story) - in fact recommendation for this would be nice too, but I guess that's a different section of avforums!

Any help appreciated by those who know paint.

Thanks

you might want to put atleast one more coat of minimally diluted/undiluted white paint to mask the colour of the plaster before applying BW.

Ok thanks custard10. I was hoping you would reply!!

I'll do that, but also can you tell me, what type of Roller should I use?

I don't want any speckles.

Thanks

you need to use a quality short pile roller (about 6mm thickness of pile /nap).
dont use any foam based ones.

the label below is from the woven one i bought whilst out shopping at leyland for s0907 y70r.

Re: Black Widow UK on sealed plastered wall

That's great thanks.

I've found my nearest Leyland paint place so I'm going to get the paint made up.

I was also looking at threads that mentioned spraying and was wondering whether this option is the way to go? Are results much superior to using a quality roller?

If I spray do I water down the mix? Does this affect the finish?

Thanks again

Re: Black Widow UK on sealed plastered wall

BW can be rolled or sprayed.

spraying any paint not just BW is less prone to cause uneven layering. you will need to practice spraying beforehand if thats the route you take.

as long as you use a sound technique with the rollering you should be fine.

the thinning of paint with distilled water is not an issue as it just evaporates away.

i would recommend thinning the paint a small amount for rollering aswell.

it may be an idea to gently sand inbetween primer coats aswell.

Re: Black Widow UK on sealed plastered wall

Having rolled BW onto a screen, I can confirm that Spraying gives far better results. If you order Auto Air Aluminium they also make a thinner as well. My screen was spray painted at a local car sprayers. They had 2 attempts to give the desired effect. The first spray was without the thinner and apparently it was not giving the spray machine or the sprayer much help! With the thinner, however, everyone was happy! The screen looked good as well!
I must have roll painted my screen about 4 times in total using different versions of BW. Spray painting, without doubt, gives is the best result.
