Talking CAVX "Aussiemorphic" MK3 Anamorphic Lens Powerbuy

(Posted with permission of forum owner)

AVForums Exclusive – The CAVX MK3 “Aussiemorphic” Anamorphic Lens

High end anamorphic projection brought to you at a new breakthrough price by Your Home Cinema.eu

Enter the world of CIH anamorphic projection with the CAVX MK3 anamorphic lens. This prismatic lens uses highest quality low dispersion achromatic glass prisms which have then been treated with BBAR (broad band anti reflective) coatings. These design aspects combine to produce excellent focus with minimal chromatic aberration.

The lens body is made of acrylic and the internals are fully lines with black velour to minimise internal light reflections. The lens is supplied with a matching height adjustable stand and a basic manual sled to allow the lens to be used in both fixed and moving lens systems.

Please note that you must have a projector or video processor that can apply the needed electronic stretch modes required for anamorphic projection. The team at Your Home Cinema.eu can help you with this if you have any questions.

The package includes:

CAVX MK3 Lens
Height Adjustable Lens Mount
Manual Lens Slide

The lens kit is available from UK stock for the incredible price of just:

£1450 inc VAT

Fully insured shipping is an additional £40

This is a massive saving on our normal retail price and is only available to AVForums members.

To take advantage of this offer, please post a reply in this thread and we will PM you with purchasing details.

This comment from the lens maker may interest those who are considering this lens:

Just a quick note to let people know that we have supplied one of the lenses for the AV Forums review team to use. I am told that Phil was quite impressed with what it can do!

What is the 'lens body' ? Is it the case ? It says the lens body is made of acrylic, the prisms made of glass.

Hi Chaps,

I don't know how Phil is getting on with the review but will give him a shout to see if he can give some feedback here.

The Lens Body refers to every part of the lens apart from the glass prisms. The holder and case are both made of a very sturdy Acrylic that looks great in front of the PJ.

Cheers,

Hi Dave,

I live in lancashire and am getting my jvc 750 projector shortly. This lens interests me and i was wondering if there is anywhere that it can be seen working, or available to demo?

Regards,

Sammy

hi chaps. dave has let me know he is on holiday with patchy internet. he has seen the emails and will respond asap.

if the pjs are on a shelf/table home demo is a possibility. I have seen this lens and was quite surprised by the quality. it is as good as any other prismatic I have seen and seems a deal at the price.

Re: CAVX "Aussiemorphic" MK3 Anamorphic Lens Powerbuy

Hi Guys,

The lens will work with any projector given enough throw ratio!

As a rule of thumb with 2.2 throw ratio or more then it is OK, below that we need to test on a per model basis.

On the 750 you can just about squeeze the image through with a throw of 2.0 but I would really insist that it needs to be 2.1 for safety.

Sunnyhd - your suggestion of being 18 foot from a 10 foot screen is almost perfect with a throw of 2.4! Note that I am assuming that your 10 foot wide screen is in 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

As Neil has said above, it would be possible to do a home demo in Lancashire (pity it wasn't Lanarkshire which is rather closer to home!) as long as the projector is at low level and there is a shelf space in front for the lens to sit on.

dave, i dont actually have my projector yet (jvc750). For a 16:9 screen 3 metres wide, the pj has to have a distance of 4.2metres from the screen, according to the jvc spec. I could push to 5.2metres ( this takes me through the french doors in to the dining room) with a 2.35 ar screen, will i manage a 3 metre wide image? If not im snookered

Hi Dave

I am very much interested in buying this lens would it be a possible to have home demo? At this moment my projector is off the ceiling as I am renovating my flat/HT.. My screen which is 10 foot 2.35:1 I ordered last week from impact screenline should arrive in a week or two.. I would love to have the lens in hand by then

Hi James,

Whilst I need to make it clear that we won't be offering home demos as standard due to the costs involved, we are happy to make an exception for you since no one else has posted their impressions of the lens in action.

Please PM me so we can make arrangements.

The JVC has a incredibly wide throw range of 1.4 to 2.7 times the width of the 1.78:1 screen. For a 3m wide image this would be a range of 4.2m to 8.1m.

What I would say is that a 3m 1.78:1 screen is really large, too large for a 750 to light up acceptably IMO. You need 1000 real lumens from the projector for that screen size which is about 2x what the JVC produces. Your viewing distance would need to be about 4.6m which if I read correcly almost puts you out of the room!

To be comfortable I would advise a maximum size 2.35:1 screen of 2.8m wide with a seating distance of around 3m. This gives a throw ratio of 2.3 which is perfect for the recessed lens of the JVC and in size is almost a perfect match for the lumen output of the JVC projectors.

Re: CAVX "Aussiemorphic" MK3 Anamorphic Lens Powerbuy

For those considering a lens I want to give fair warning that the falling pound means we will need to increase prices once our current stocks are exhausted.

From 1st November the Powerbuy price will have to increase to £1370 inc VAT.

Hello Dave

Thanks you for your kind offer I would love to see this baby in action and if this works in my room I would be happy buy it on the same day..
As I said my room dimension is 4 by 5.5 so naturally my projector can be fitted anywhere you recommend.. my flat/homecinema should be ready sometime next week.. only problem is I wouldn’t have the screen until following week.
We could use 10 meter long table cloth I might have one… Lol

Re: CAVX "Aussiemorphic" MK3 Anamorphic Lens Powerbuy

I was considering the Mk3 and I've now seen that CAVX are planing a Mk4 with astigmatism correction like an ISCO. Any news or ballpark prices for this new model?

EDIT: I see it is an 'additional' model. I could still buy the Mk3 and add the 'corrector' to it when it becomes available, but I'd still be interested in a figure for the Mk4, even if it is approximate like for example "2 x the Mk3 price".

Re: CAVX "Aussiemorphic" MK3 Anamorphic Lens Powerbuy

Thanks Gary, I make that over £4k so that makes the decision easier. To paraphrase Monty Python (and the Holy Hand grenade of Antioch): "1 is good, but 4 is right out".

I'm at a throw of 2.7 (84" wide 16:9 at approx 19' PJ to screen) so I should be using the smallest area of the lens and getting the highest contrast ratio out my HD350. I already use my Lumagen HDQ for calibration and colour mitigation purposes so I may as well do the vertical stretch/ 4:3 mode there as it's a one button command rather than a menu selection option in the HD350.

EDIT: Dave please can you PM me details of this lens and availability/delivery times? Also as a staunch zoomer and lately a 'shrinker' I'd be happy to take some pictures and write a mini review of my findings, though I believe Phil Hinton is writting a review at some point.

Just thought I'd better add that the price there is the estimated Australian retail price - it won't include postage, duty or VAT.

Re: CAVX "Aussiemorphic" MK3 Anamorphic Lens Powerbuy

Hi all
I did read quite a few pages on CAVX "Aussiemorphic" MK3 Anamorphic Lens on the other side of the pond and they all seem to be happy with their choice. But there was mention of MK4 Not sure what it will cost and how long before it started shipping to UK
So I am biting the bullet and going to order one today once I get hold of Dave

Dave,

Will you be selling the MK4 or the Corrector Element for the MK3?

CavX Mk4 Lens

Hi Thanks for your post the situation is that we will be selling the MK IV when it become available in the UK. I don't have the final UK shipped price as yet. As for the corrector I think that product is also now ready and of course we will keep you updated as and when information and prices become available.

I know that it wouldn't be the real deal but still would be interesting to see some pics to see what's the difference between zoomed and lens image.

Pictures really don't give you a good idea of the differences between the two methods, but with most half decent lenses, the lens adds enough improvement over zooming to make it the better option - provided you sit close enough to notice the difference of course.

The only way to satisfy your own curiosity is to get a good demo of zooming and anamorphic lens to see if the difference (for you) is enough to warrant the extra cost. It was for me and now I wouldn't go back to zooming (or a 16:9 screen for that matter).
