MP-3 recorded on CD-R won't play in car.

I recorded some MP3 music files onto a CD-R which plays fine on my home Sony CD player, but my car CD player refuses to recognize it. Someone told me that I have to record it in a diffrent format for it to be recognized by the car unit. Please advise. Thanks.

Sounds to me like your car's CD player can't handle MP3-CD's. If it's a bog-standard player or fairly old and doesn't have the MP3 logo on it anywhere that's probably the case. If so, you can burn the MP3 files to an Audio-CD which would play in any CD player. Windows Media Player has this option, as do Nero etc. Note that you'll only get up to 80 minutes of tracks on an Audio CD, regardless of the original MP3 file size.

Another possiblility if it is (MP3 compatible) is that your car player doesn't like the CD-R's you're using, so you could try using another brand.

Hope that helps.

Many thanks for your response. I have already burned the MP3 tracks onto a CD-R, Verbatim brand, which plays well on my home CD Player. The car player is not MP3 compatible. its circa 2000. I think if I re-record the MP3 files into another file format onto a new CD-R, it might work. But what file format?

Re: MP-3 recorded on CD-R won't play in car.

You will need to convert the files to AIF format.
You will need to do this using some conversion software before you burn a new CD.
In all honesty one of the easiest ways is to use iTunes to do this, it is just a case of changing the preferences within the software, and click burn cd, which will do the process on the fly.
As the previous contributor says you will only get about 80 mins per cd (10-12 tracks) but iTunes would tell you how much could be done per disk as you go along.

Do you use Windows Media Player? If so, you don't need any extra software. Just select the Burn menu, then Audio CD from the drop down menu, drag your MP3 files into the Burn List pane, and WMP does the rest, including the coding to standard CD format.

I had exactly the same problem a while back, burning wav files solved the problem.
