I've Been running a slimmed down copy of WinXP on an old Deskpro EN that serves music via firefly to my Roku Soundbridge

I fancy changing to a Linux build of some description.

Any one got any suggestions of a nice thin, simple Linux build that would do the trick?

I quite like the look of the build's that boot direct from CD-Rom

I don't really want to go for a NAS as i have the spare Compaq already and it's power consumption is pretty low.

Ideally remote connectivity from my other Vista PC's would be nice to save having another keyboard/mouse/monitor

For the past 2 months I've been running Ubuntu Feisty Fawn Server 7.04. This is linux based on the Debian system. See here for more details. The Live CD can be run without installation. Why not just go for it

And I love it I'm running an old AMD Athlon XP1800+ with 512Mb Ram on a 30GB drive secondary drive is 500Gb for music, film, photos etc. This machine runs a treat and much quicker than an Athlon Turion 64 2.0Ghz, 1 Gb RAM running Win XP.

From my Ubuntu server I serve 1 linux laptop (mine) and 2 XP desktops (kids) and a Netgear EVA8000 HD media entertainment centre. Install TwonkyVision uPNP server software and your Soundbridge will stream music from your server. This is the bit I want next for my kitchen. The TwonkyVision/Soundbridge can be controlled by a WiFi/Bluetooth Pocket PC running Rudeo Play and Control.
