try the sony site for mp3 to atrac converter you can use ss but this is better, it uses fewer resources, though like ss it does crash a lot. a good tip (at least on my setup) is to kill your network connection that goes to the internet that seems to work for me and makes crashes far less frequent.

There's reaally no need to convert to Atrac, just add them to the SonicStage library and SonicSatge will import the MP3s to the player without doing any conversion. The HD5 has native support for MP3 and MP3 variable bit rate, just not WMA. 'Transcoding' Mp3 to Atrac could give you poorer sounding tracks and there's really little point unless they are 320Kbps and you want to reduce the size and squeeze the most out of the battery.

I posted this a while ago...went unnoticed. No replies.
I would like this so I could get more files on the player and save battery.

I'm want to use this Sony Mp3 Convertion Tool to batch-convert a large amount of mp3s to atrac2plus prior to transfering them with SS to my NH-HD5. Thing is when I try to lauch the software it shows a error message (something like "You need to have SS2.1 or better installed to run this application"). Thing is, I have SS3.1 installed, so this shouldnt be a problem...I guess sony has things messed up with this. Any of you guys had the same experience?
Is there any other software that will allow me to mass convert mp3 to atrac2plus?

Thanks!

I thought I got it to work but I had the same problem.

However I did find out how to convert mp3 to ATRAC from within SonicStage 3.1.

Once you have transferred your chosen mp3 album go to the My Library Section, open the mp3 album then select all the mp3's you want to convert.

When they are selected right click the mouse button and you will see an option third from the bottom called "Convert Format".

When this is open you can choose either ATRAC3 or ATRAC3Plus and also change the bit rate.

It can take a little while to convert, but it works fine for me

Emailed Sony about the SonicStage 3.1 + Mp3 Conversion Tool.
Here's what they have to say:
Sucks...

Dear Mr XXXX

Thank you for your recent enquiry.

I must point out that the MP3 Conversion Tool was produced to operate with
North American systems, and we are unable to guarantee it's successful
operation in Europe. In addition to this, a European version was never
produced. Subsequently, we cannot guarantee that the MP3 Conversion Tool
will operate effectively when used with SonicStage version 3.1. It is with
regret that we are unable to trouble shoot this software, and can only
advise the un-installation of the Conversion tool.

I am sorry for any disappointment my reply may cause.

With regards

XXX XXXXX

I got this reply about the mp3 Conversion Tool: -

Hello,

Unfortunately we are having a issue with some customers installing the MP3 conversion tool. We currently do not have a direct fix for this problem; we do however have a work around for this issue. Please follow these steps so you can convert MP3s after you have imported them into Sonic Stage.

Importing your Mp3s

In SonicStage.
Go to File.
Click on Import and choose Music File.
Click on the Look in dropdown and choose the files you wish to import.
Once selected, click on Import button.
After Import

Go to My Library.
Right click on a MP3.
Choose Convert Format.
Select which Atrac format you wish to use.
Click Convert.
You can choose multiple files by using CTRL and clicking on numerous MP3s.

If the information I have provided does not completely answer your question, please update this incident so I may be of further assistance to you.

Sincerely,

Chris
