File creation and naming - software to help?

Hi. I have about a thousand cd's that I'm burning to Flac on my pc.

I'd like to save each into an individual named folder (Artist / title) - but its now dawned on me how much work this will inolve.

I now wonder if anyone knew of a piece of (preferably free) software that will do this for me.

My list of cds is currently stored on an excel sheet - but obviously could be exported to a text file if necessary.

Any advice/ experiences would be really appreciated.

Re: File creation and naming - software to help?

I use MediaMonkey to rip my CD's to FLAC. I found it very straightforward to use, and after setting the default naming convention the software retrieves the artist/title information automatically (in the vast majority of cases it was correct and didn't need any manual changes). There are other means of doing this- dbPowerAmp is another. They're both free, so I'd suggest downloading those 2 for starters, try them out on a couple of albums and see if they're good for you.

happy - thanks for that - I'll give it a try...

does anyone happen to know if it will produce files that are the same quality as Exact Audio Copy? ... Guess they'll be the same?

Now that's a highly subjective question

To my ears there was no difference, and the biggest advantage of EAC that I've noticed is when ripping problematic disks. I suspect that if you don't have many scratched disks it won't be an issue for you, though I'd suggest that if you have any concerns your best bet would be to do a side-by-side comparison of 1 or 2 of your favourite albums and see if you can notice any difference.
