Purchased 2 of these at the weekend, one for a customer and one for myself. Anyway, I have been speaking to B&W R&D in Steyning today, who have managed to replicate and confirm the below bugs/annoyances.
A few problem scenarios:
1) Say for example, you want to use the USB connection for audio in from a pc permanently... If the Zeppelin Mini’s LED is green, and you turn the unit off (before turning the PC off), the iPod connects and tries to sync. OK, this is normal I know. However, when you then eject the iPod using “Safely Remove Hardware” or “Eject” from “My Computer” the iPod and/or Zeppelin Mini sometimes lock up. The Zeppelin Mini then requires turning off/on at the mains and/or the iPod resetting.
2) If you turn the Zeppelin Mini off, and try to switch the power back on (whilst the USB cable is connected and PC turned on) by pressing the power button twice, both iPod and Zeppelin Mini always both lock up.
3) Sometimes the Zeppelin Mini immediately turns off (red) by itself from either green or blue and then locks up!
Basically, the USB connection and switching sources seem VERY problematic.
I would have thought that B&W will be getting quite a few calls about this. I’m fairly technical and can sort these problems out when they happen. However, my wife on the other hand, got really frustrated with the unit yesterday and asked me if she could have her old dock back (Sound Dock II)! It’s a shame really because the Zeppelin Mini would be perfect for us, if only we can get it functioning reliably.
In addition, there are no proper instructions supplied with the Zeppelin Mini, nor are they available for download yet. B&W inform me they are working on a final revision of the instructions.
Problems aside, I would like to thank B&W for promptly getting back to me regarding the above, and will hopefully be coming up with a firmware update/fix soon.
**Edit** Manual is now available.
