Bose Sounddock 10 v's B&W Mini Zepplin

Folks,

Does anybody own one of these, as I was thinking about the Mini, but read some reviews on the bose and it seems to rock, also can plug the telly into it if I want.

I know the Bose is somewhat more expensive, but price is not the issue, need something small and compact with punch.

Thanks in Advance

Re: Bose Sounddock 10 v's B&W Mini Zepplin

have the bose sound dock one of the 1st gen with no audio input
my brother has the newer one has audio input + rechargable battrey no more power leads when you go outside, the sound is good on both.

like the idea on the zepplin (Using a device like Apple’s Airport Express, you could make Zeppelin Mini part of a wireless network, streaming music wirelessly from your computer’s hard drive) not sure if you can with a bose,

i think you will be happy with any,

got mine from bose direct if not happy with it you can return it within 30 days for a full refund

Re: Bose Sounddock 10 v's B&W Mini Zepplin

Two be honest you cannot compare the two. The SoundDock 10 is a bit of a beast. A fairer comparison with the mini would be either the Portable or the SoundDock II. The full sized Zepp is much better than the 10.

In terms of sound quality do not believe everything you read. I've spent alot of time with the SounDock 10 and to be honest the only thing it can do well is go loud. Where they have over emphasized on the bass, it tends to drown out the clarity and detail, also the sound is very cold and harsh just like the rest of Bose's products.

My advice would be to buy the bigger Zepp and replace the original fig 8 lead thats supplied with something better.

This may be of interest, as I'm having problems with my Zeppelin Mini(s).

B(owers) & W(ilkins) have been manufacturing loudspeakers since the mid 1960s.
I have the larger model,Zeppelin, and can thoroughly recommend it.

Re: Bose Sounddock 10 v's B&W Mini Zepplin

I agree that the fairest comparison is between the Bose SoundDock 10 and the full-sized B&W Zeppelin - the Zeppelin Mini is definitely more in the ball-park of the smaller Bose SoundDocks. Anyway, I listened to both the SD10 and the larger Zeppelin at the weekend (as carefully as is possible in a store), and tend to agree that the Zeppelin sounds better - it sounds more refined than the SD10. That said, I did think that the latter sounded excellent, just not as good as the B&W. I also had the impression that the SD10 would go very loud, but couldn't properly test this in the shop.

But more to the point, who the hell are Bose trying to kid with the pricing on the SD10? 700 quid is just a total joke! In the US, it retails for $600, the same price as the B&W. My guess is that the price will plummet in the coming weeks - either that or they won't sell any. I've already seen one US on-line retailer offering it for £350, but postage from the US is about $150.

So the way ahead is The full size Zepp, was in the Apple store playing 2 identical songs with the Zepp and the Mini, both sounded the same but the full size sure looks lovely.

Believe the Zepp has a S-video output, could I stream into my TV use it like a surround?

Cheers

It has an optical (TOSlink) input which i use with my PS3, and it sounds absolutely awesome with blu ray.

I am a Bose stockist and dabbled in B&W. Almost everything above is true. We all hear differently and should listen after we read, before we buy. For me, the large B&W has the most listenable sound with a clarity and detail you just can not find on other docks. However, we sell more Bose than anything else combined as most people (their choice, free world etc) prefer the Bose sound. Good news on price, the Sounddock 10 has lost it's 'included' Bluetooth adapter and now sells for £549, a much better price. Even better if you want the Bluetooth, call Bose with your serial number and they will sell you one for £49.
All the Bose docks have just come down in price thus making them well worth another listen. What ever you do, visit an independent retailer not a multiple as they should be equipped to let you listen to your stuff at your level in your own time. Cheers.

Sadly many people are lead by clever marketing and buy products like Bose based on just this! To my ears the Bowers & Wilkins docks are far superior ( at their respective price points) sounding products. They both deliver a more natural sound.

I did a comparison between the original Sounddock and the Zeppelin in John Lewis, where they had them on display next to each other. (The Zeppelin was better). Are you anywhere near a John Lewis? The other place that sells both Bose and B&W are Apple shops, are you anywhere near an Apple shop?

Just ordered one of these from JL, Philips Fidelio Primo DS9010/10 iPod/iPad Speaker Dock.

According to which ever review you read it's sound quality is either as good as or nearly as good as the B&W Zeppelin (not the mini) and is currently half the price of the Zeppelin at JL £250 to clear stock as there is a replacement around the corner that is basically the same speaker but supports AirPlay (not important to me but could be a deal breaker for some) but will likely retail for around £500 so I have got one of these whilst they are still available.

I will also be using mine to dock my new iPad which is not possible with most other docks.

Buy Philips Fidelio Primo DS9010/10 iPod/iPad Speaker Dock online at JohnLewis.com

I had 3 zeppelin 1s (not mini)all had an annoying buzzing noise in the background, very noticeable when listening with the volume low or paused. Stupidly I thought I would try the 2nd gen, had two of these, both faulty again, wireless drop outs constantly and then would not connect at all on both. Sound quality wise they are fantastic, I just wish the build quality was better!.

I now have the Bose SoundDock 10 which is completely free of any faults and has been great. Again the sound quality is fantastic on the Bose, I would however say the zeppelin was a little better sound wise, shame it is let down by the cheap components used to manufacture it.
