Acoustic Solutions MP3 problems

Not sure if this is the right forum? but here goes. My daughter has this MP3 player (1Gb) and it kept locking up on her but would work fine when plugged into the USB port of my PC. I decided to copy off everything and reformat. Now for the problems! What is the correct format? FAT or FAT32? If I format it using FAT, I can copy tracks to it but once it gets to 128 entries, it throws an error saying it cannot create any more entries BUT what is on there plays fine and appears to get rid of the locking up problem. Format to FAT32 and it copies all the original tracks fine - around 180 in total BUT when I try to use it, it says there are no files on the player yet I can see them all when I plug it into my PC.

Any ideas please?
