iPod dock with built in speakers, any good?

i am looking for compact portabilty here but I want something that sounds better than those underpowered cd/ cassete players that used to be so popular .They all sound crap IMO in fcat I have two Panasonics gathering dust. Anyway I want a docking station with more welly ( maybe a class d/t amp) that I can use in the garden or elsewhere.Altec do a very nice looking IM4 ,then there is POD gear shuffle station, iLuv i552. Nyko speaker dock 2 all seem to be recommended by iLounge . Any ideas?

A mate of mine has an i-station.

It's very compact, can use batteries and for it's size doesn't sound bad at all.

Amazon have a Gear4 shuffle station at £7.50 might be worth a try

I doubt it - isn't that for the old Shuffle?

I have the Logitech MM50 10 times the price of the Gear4 Shuffle, but I bet it's 10 times better.
Comes with a case, rechargeable Li-ion battery and remote. It is a very simple design, but works very well.

Also gets good reviews on ilounge and Amazon.

Went to a mate's house on the weekend. His wife has one of the Gear4 Houseparty docks - sound wasn't bad and it did go plenty loud enough without distorting.

Right thats one for House party @£59, one forJBl Onstage @79, one for Logic3 MIP107K i-Station7 @ £48, and one for Logitech MM50 at £69.

Guess the thing to do is to toddle off down to Comet and have a listen. They have both Logic3 and Logitech

I use a Logitech mm50 it's excellent; I travel extensively and the case is very useful. The only problem is the AC adapter does not fit in the case....It's not really a problem just a touch annoying.

The sound quality is excellent, much better than any equivalent and very reasonably priced.

for proper noise making, at very high quality check out the Harman Kardon Go and Play... Not cheap, but damn good!

Another vote for the Onstage - we had a play in John Lewis as they have them powered up and a tethered iPod to try.
The ontour sounded a bit poor. The Logitech mm50 was too big and the mm32(?) was tinny.
Can't remember the Logic3 ones though I have a lot of time for their dock and retractable dock cable (in the car)
The Altec Lansing ones were poor.

The Onstage was demonstrably crisper with better bass and came in an amazingly small unit. Be aware though the plug in power supply is big and heavy to get enough juice for that volume!
