Anybody know a FREE program for changing mp3's to WAV files ?
Anybody know a FREE program for changing mp3's to WAV files and then back to MP3 ?
I have always used CDEX but it has stopped working for some strange reason.
Even after deleting and re-installing !

I use Switch Sound File Converter. Easy to use and converts to most formats.
Why do you want to convert mp3 to wav?

The free version of dbPowerAmp will do this.
Bear in mind that converting from MP3 to WAV and then back to MP3 again causes a loss in quality - unless you are trying to reduce the bitrate, there is no point in doing this.

It causes double loss because the file will have gone through so much manipulation
You cannot convert to higher quality to achieve that... as you cannot put back in what you have already lost
Not sure why you would want .wav though as you cannot tag it. I presume its not for audio CD burning use as just about any program burns audio CD for you

iTunes can do it. From the General tab in the "Preferences" dialog, click on "Import Settings" and select "WAV Encoder" and OK. Then right-click on the tune you want to convert and select "Create WAV Version". This will create a duplicate of the MP3 but in WAV format in the same directory as the original.

Re: Anybody know a FREE program for changing mp3's to WAV files ?
If I want to cut a piece of music out of a track for a ringtone or just because I want a short piece of the track - I usually change to WAV and use the SOOND RECORDER option that comes with Windows as it only works on Wav files . Then I have to change the edited Wav file back to mp3 format.
If you guys have a better way please advise.
Please keep it Uba-Simple though

Have you tried audiograbber? I used that whenever I want to convert my audio files.

Audacity is what I use for trimming .mp3's down to ringtone sized files, you can edit the .mp3 and then save it as it's own .mp3 file without harming the original and no loss of quality either.
