Problems using UPNP with XBMC on Mac

I have tired to set up my archos 605 so that I can stream content from my mac.

I am running XBMC on the mac and have setup the UPNP on that ok.
The Archos is on my wireless LAN and that is fine.
When I browse to the UPNP it scans for the network connects fine and shows the XBMC server listed.

However when I click on it to open the Archos reboots.

Any ideas what I have done wrong. It sounds like a problem with the Archos to me.

Re: Problems using UPNP with XBMC on Mac

Worth checking the Archos firmware is current and also try a reset on the Archos using the pin-hole on the base.

Re: Problems using UPNP with XBMC on Mac

Thanks for the suggestion. Firmware is current and reseting has not helped.

I wonder if the 605 is not compatible with xbmc upnp?

Contacted support but I have just found this which sounds very disappointing.

Re: Problems using UPNP with XBMC on Mac

Oddly enough I'm using several Archos devices in my home with a Synology NAS box. Occasionally one will refuse to find the files on the NAS but that is rare and soon sorts itself out.

Does seem from the copied Archos reply that they do not consider a failure to properly support UPnP to be a problem

Re: Problems using UPNP with XBMC on Mac

Here is the official reply. A quick response but a disappointing one.

Dear Customer,

We inform you that as said in the technical specification of unit UPNP is given for working with windows media player 10 or 11.

Kind Regards,
Archos Technical Support

Re: Problems using UPNP with XBMC on Mac

Sadly not much of an answer, I guess they really didn't pay attention to the full meaning of the 'U' for 'Universal' in UPnP

Re: Problems using UPNP with XBMC on Mac

Well just had a go at setting this up on a windows machine with no joy.

I have discovered that you can however browse to the media files on my mac through the files icon on the archos and they all play fine then.
