as stated previously
use the format tools supplied
if you are using vista make sure you use the vista tool
same with xp
i initially had a problem but i had used the wrong format tool it shouldnt matter but it seems it does because when i did it again with the correct tool it worked fine

I copied around 300 gb of movies into the M directory - and could see all the folders in the M directory. So far all good. I could see the movie files on the HD box, and I tested a few of them on my computer.

Then I connected the HD box to my TV - and opened up the folders, but found out that of all the movies I had copied there, loads of them was missing, was not there at all on the hard disk.

Now I did not do anything else then connect to my computer with USB, and copy and paste files into the HD drive. How come I can see all the folders on my computer in the HD, but not when connected to my TV, many files are missing when checking in the TV.

Any advice would be much appreicated. I do not know how to run the FAT 32 tool, so if that is required, could someone explain me how I do this.

thanks for your help.
I am having exactly the same problem. It is very frustrating to transfer loads of .avi files onto the hard drive for them not to show up on the tv. I have tried reformatting and the same thing has happened. I am not sure why some files show and some don't.

Did anyone work out how to rectify this problem?

Re: Anyone know how to set up a Sumvision Cyclone HDD media player????

For all those people who can see the movie files on the hard drive when connected to a computer but are missing some when you connect the cyclone to a tv please follow the advice given in the following post

SUMVISION CYCLONE THE PROBLEMS

I re-formatted in NTFS and then partitioned my 500Gb hard drive into 3 parts, added the root folders movie, music and photos into each one and then transferred my films across to the three drives.

Now when I connect it to the tv and select movies from the main page I have an option to select Hard Drive 1, 2 or 3 and within there all my movies are showing and play perfectly.

It has taken me three months to get this sorted and finally it is.

I dont know who the guy/girl was that wrote the post but thank you. It works

What did you do.
I found if i turned my firewall on my laptop off briefly, the Cyclone was able to recognise and connect to my lap top via a hard wire from cyclone to my wireless hub. Hope this is of help, not to sure when it comes to all the technical jargon......

However if anyone can tell me why i cant use my cyclone to record directly off my television, all i see is a blue screen when i switch to video in......

Re: Anyone know how to set up a Sumvision Cyclone HDD media player????

Hi folks,

I just got a Cyclone HDMI 500gb and all seems to be fine apart from one thing.

I can't get access to the Cyclone hard-disk over the network from my PC. The idea of this device was that I'd use it as network attached storage so I could download directly to the device.

Does anyone know
a. Is this possible?
b. How to get the device to show on the network?

In the manual it states that this is possible but doesn't give any clues on how to achieve it.

Many thanks

My drive doesn't come on if I download mpeg 4 files onto it.
What I can't do is see tv to record from as I have the media recorder player. I don't know if I am connecting it all up properly. Anyone any ideas or know how it should be connected?

Guess what, exactly the same problem

You turn it on it says HELLO then after 15 seconds it says STOP.
and theres no picture output.

Plug it into the PC and it comes up with two drive letters.

Anyone elso had this problem ?

Its got a pre installed 500 gig Hard Drive

Ok I previously had problems with my cyclone player which was returned twice!

Eventually a New Model arrived today and still had the same problems. As before, I connected it to my LG HDTV and The Drive would just say "stop" and do nothing. The TV Could not locate the player and stated "no signal".

I tried the player on another TV and switched through the AV channels and low and behold its working fine.!

So... The current dilema is how do I get my LG tV to "find" the player when connected. The settings are set to PAL, so surely this should work (As it does on aother TV in the house!)?? Is it worth trying and connect the player using a HDMI cable possibly??

Any advice much apreciated!

Re: Anyone know how to set up a Sumvision Cyclone HDD media player????

Just got my Cyclone HD (HDMI) on Friday. Spent the evening rewiring my house and moving the routers to more helpful places

Was impressed that it detected all my shares on the network right away (both on my linux box and my windows box)

Not using a drive in it so have unpluged the fan so no noise.

Only think is the remote and the OS. The OS seems a bit 'laggy' and the remote seems you have to push the buttons very hard to make it doing anything.

Other than that seems a good box so far.

Did anyone find a solution to the "No HDD Dectected" issue? Apart from sending it back of course!

Re: Anyone know how to set up a Sumvision Cyclone HDD media player????

am I the only one so unlucky?
Today sumvision cyclone hd arrived, I tried to switch it on.
No picture on TV (neither with HDMI, nor with composite connector), no "HELLO" message, nothing! However, the fan is continuously working and the screen on the unit is lit. It does not depend on whether the box is with hard drive installed or without it.
It does not also depend on whether the box is connected via USB to my laptop or not. However, if connected to the laptop, it is possible to access the hard drive via USB, partition and format it. (Oh yes! I still can use the storage!!! *)
Also, this strange behaviour does not depend on the file system type, cluster size, amount of partitions and their presence...
Does anyone have a similar experience?

Re: Anyone know how to set up a Sumvision Cyclone HDD media player????

Had my Cyclone 500GB (Envisage, Amazon) since Oct and it appears to have just died, PC wont recognise it at all, when attached to the TV the menu screen comes up but then a blue box flashes top left "HDD not detected"

Is this the Kiss of death - I had loads of chew with it when I bought it as it wouldnt recognise anything in NTFS till I redid it in Fat32 and also get lip sypc probs when ever its paused then restarted or its played a film I stop it then have a break then come back and start another - I get no probs with lip sync when its played Via the USB on the PC.
Anybody got any firmware updates if I ever get it working again

When you say 'partition' do you mean that you format the drive splitting in to 3 sections, e.g. using Disk Management?

In the post you quoted above, the other person says "you can make three folders, 1.MOVIE, 2.MUSIC, 3.PHOTO" after making it a bootable drive and formatting it in NTSF format. I assumed this just meant that the person used Windows Explorer to create 3 folders within the root directory.

Sorry if any of the terminology above is incorrect as I don't really understand the process 100%.

Re: Anyone know how to set up a Sumvision Cyclone HDD media player????

I just thought I'd add my experience so far with the Cyclone HD

I just bought the caddy and put my own 300 GIG WD harddrive in it.

Connected to the television via the AV leads, switched to the AV input on the television and I got the menu then went into setup and there is a screen to format the HDD you choose a % for FAT32 and a % for NTFS. The difference being that you can record directly onto FAT32 but it only recognises up to 4 GIG where the NTFS can can recognise larger files but you cannot record on to it from AV inout.

After this I connected it to the computer and both partitions showed up, In these partitions i put a few folders of different names for TV series and copied some files into the folders, after doing this I clicked on the system tray and unconnected the device befure un plugging it.

Then connecting it back onto the TV it saw all the folders and files.

The only slight niggles I have is that the remote is a little tempermental and does not always work on the first press although I point it right at box and the fan is quite noisy.

I also need to work out how to re-encode HD MKV and MP4 files. Any tips or freeware programs on this would be greatfully recieved.

I hope this helps people, I just was not sure why people were trying to format it in Windows rather than via the box its self

Thumbs down Re: Anyone know how to set up a Sumvision Cyclone HDD media player????

New one today. Peeved off with it already

I formatted my hard drive (NTFS) then made folders: "Music" / "Photos" / "Movies". Proceeded to put the appropriate files in each. Switched from PC to TV, turned on the cyclone, chose Music and it froze.

OK, could me just me so I restarted it, chose Movies and it the same problem again.

So i changed the folders to capital letters thinking maybe it had to be the exact same folder names as shown of the Main window of the TV screen. Same thing with the freezing

So, i read some of the comments, formatted with FAT32...and would you believe..same again.

If it helps, after choosing music/movie/photo no remote control buttons work at all, only the power button. This freezing crap is driving me mad....

Any ideas lads??

Thanks

Vin

(p.s incidently, it also freezes with a freshly formatted HD with no files on it at all in the same manner)

Re: Anyone know how to set up a Sumvision Cyclone HDD media player????

Hello, I managed to get mine to work. All I did was:

1 Connect to TV using composite cables (do not connect to computer)
2 Follow instructions for formatting by looking at PDF on the supplied cd
- Use the remote control to go through the menus to format the HD
- split in to two partitions: 30GB FAT32 and the rest NTFS
3 Connect HD to computer via USB cable and drag music/photos/movies/files to either partition
4 Connect back to TV and play without any problems.

The only problems I have are:
Menu navigation is not easy
Bright yellow menu options with white font is very difficult to read
Unable to delete files using menu options (had to connect back to computer)
Unable to read a lot of the AVI files, but those files are fine when I view them on my old Sumvision Aqua media player

I think we have a different media player. Mines is not the recorder one, but the simplest one. It has no 'on TV' formatting options or time/date setting.

I have emailed the company i purchased it from, and am awaiting reply.

Re: Anyone know how to set up a Sumvision Cyclone HDD media player????

In defence of the player, mine has had a lot of blips along the way but if i was to calulate what it would have cost me in video rentals and burn DVD i have to say that i have only have this unit 8 months and already it doesnt owe me a thing. Sure some films dont play but thats just to do with doggy down load etc. So all in all it was a great buy for me. Alternativley my mate has a Argosy 500gb HDD media player and never had any hipcups that ive had with the cyclone.

Just a question of other cyclone users, do they have 5.1 surround sound and do they work with the films on their players,

Cheers

Re: Anyone know how to set up a Sumvision Cyclone HDD media player????

I have a couple of the older "non recorder/non HDMI" version of the Cyclone Sumvision HDD Media Player.

I have experienced several issues with the Movie list not showing on my Television screen. When connected via USB to my PC, I can see the drive clearly and the movies listed in the "MOVIE" folder I created on the drive.

The drives have been formatted in FAT32 and NTFS, both formats suffered the same issue.

As I have two players, I have been able to move the drive between the players and suffered the same issue on both units.

I installed a brand new hard drive into one unit, formatted it to NTFS, created the MOVIE folder, loaded some movies and it worked perfectly on my TV. I have therefore concluded it is an issue with the hard drives and not the players themselves.

After closer examination, the drives I am having issues with are showing a MBR [master boot record] partition within system manager, as well as the primary partition. A normal format does not seem to delete this MBR and the drive doesn't work in the players. The new drive I tested, had no MBR and worked pefectly.

I downloaded a free program from the web to wipe the drives fully and delete the MBR partition. I then reformatted and loaded the movies, it worked brilliantly!

I am therefore assuming the players do not like drives with an MBR partition - Can anyone else confirm?

I have now wiped and formatted 6 drives in FAT32 and NTFS, ranging from 40GB to 500GB and they all work fine.

For reference I used this program to wipe the drives [make sure you wipe the right drive - this is a powerful program] HDDGURU HDD WIPE TOOL.
