Best DVD ripper -> avi for Archos AV700?

Hi there. New to these forums, so hope I'm posting in the correct place.

I've recently got an Archos AV700TV and I'm looking at putting some of my daughter's DVDs on it to keep her occupied on long car journeys. After playing about with the Tv pod I've decided that probably the best (and easiest) way to transfer these files is probably by using some sort of dvd ripping software.

I've been having a play about with a few (Movie2x, DVD Pocket Studio, ImToo, etc.), but they all seem to suffer from varying degrees of pixelation (sp?). Obviously using a lower video bitrate has a direct effect on this.

What I am therefore after is people's recommendations on what software produces the best results (less pixelation) for the smallest filesize. I don't want to go out and buy something and find it really isn't as good as I'd like, so while I'd like it for the lowest possible cost (or free), I would be happy to pay for something I know to be good (and worth the money).

Thanks for any advice.

Jane.

hi

i've used - http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/

and found it good - it passed a pixellation failure in one of the other products

hope it outputs in a format useful to an archos

I use Pocket DVD Studio on my AV500 and get good results, http://www.pqdvd.com/watch_dvd_on_pocket_pc.html, I find it works best with DivX codec and I can't detect any pixelation.

Auto Gordion Knot (AutoGK) is the best (and easiest) software that I've come across:

AutoGK Homepage - THE tool for XviD / DivX conversion

It's free too.

Re: Best DVD ripper -> avi for Archos AV700?

I just rip the dvd main movie files using DVD fab decrypter or DVD decrypter
then use pocketdivx encoder (it has specific settings for archos) and they play really well even on a large TV (26") if you keep bit rates up and doesnt take up to much space. can take around a hour to convert (im only using 1.8 duron PC and see no reason to upgrade) PocketDivXEncoder
