Standalone Player for .mkv x264 HD files?

Hello to all,

I'm a happy owner of a Samsung 40M86 FULL HD tv which is connected through HDMI to a Philips 5980 upscaling (1080p) SD DVD player.

My problem is that, i have many .mkv 720p clips which i want to see on my tv. My pc isn't an option (wife factor.........).

Is there a standalone player which can playback smoothly and without problems these files, without costing a fortune ?

Not sure if you bought your .mkv player but there is one on this site MkvPlayers: DViCO, Popcornhour : Matroska Players in Europe that is blue ray player and it also plays .mkv and many other video and audio formats. It is the brand new Dune player and it is pretty BA.
