Archos Troubles

My archos av4100 I was given and then put a 40gb hdd in And it workd great for a while until last night When i turned it on "unable to read from hardisk" The night before i had watched a xvid movie and bookmarked it thats the only thing did. So i took the back off checked the cable before i formated it nothing wrong.
So i formated it froze at about 95% so i removed the hdd and reconnceted it then it shut down this happend 2 or 3 times now it shows the Format bar at the av400 screen and it freezes at 95% also the battery is orange or nearly flat How can i get it working again

Re: Archos Troubles

my AV500's HDD has just done the same as your, only I cannot view anything on screen when I power up. Initially I got a short display saying it couldn't read the HDD, but then it disappeared into an all-white screen. If I hook it into the TV I can see the screen and the reformat option - but when I select it I'm told after 5 mins that it cannot reformat the drive as it can't read it.

What did you do to fix yours? I know its a different model, but maybe your method works, or else I'm stuck with a repair bill or worse a new one from Archos!

Re: Archos Troubles

I am afraid your stuck as im sure archos got rid of the option to format new drives in th models after the av400. But for refrence when mine came on on the archos av400 screen it showed a loading bar or format bar and froze at 95% then would just stay untill hdd was disconected and reconnected or battery went flat so i turned it on wwithout my hdd coonected until i got the error screen then i connected the hdd pres the format button waited to tell me it had formated it Then it came on.

Re: Archos Troubles

I think its dead - it turns out I killed the HDD when shutting the boot of the car!!! The boot was packed and when I put my work bag in I had to give the boot door a bit of encouragement to close - turns out I cracked my laptop screen as well!!! Not a good day!
