Archos 605 H264 plugin playback

Anyone out there using one of these...got one last week and very happy so far with it, but got the Video podcast plugin for H.264/AAC audio playback and have had no luck in playing clips...tried out some 720x480 trailers and it trys to play it like it going to convert the file(progress bar)and then comes up saying the file is damaged but the file plays just fine on the PC. Pity had to buy the plugin(only 20euro) but beside the point. Like I said apart from this little thing the player is very good...

I got a 160gb last week and tried to move some h264 files over all downloaded from Gametrailers and could not play them as the codec used was not the same for some such reason.

I'm a complete novice when it comes down codec's and codec versions so any help would be great.

I downloaded all the pugins the opera works great as well as DVD vob file playback.

I'm also having issues with files that are to big for play back.

Did you find a 'friendly' place to download plug-ins for the 605 Wifi?

THis Archos device looks interesting, but where would I be able to test one?, surely they don't expect us to spalsh out on one without testing it first?, what to see what the device is capable of, what is the maximum bitrate supported for Mpeg2/H264/WMV?..

It IS good. The downside is the fact they have taken major functions out of the product and called them optional extras (plug-ins) which you have to buy.

So VOB, MPEG won't play without the respective plug-in. Web browsing won't work without that particular plug-in either (even tho' Opera is installed an used to access the Archos (online) media portal!)

They claim it is because not every one wants everything. But I am sure anyone who wants to play video will want to play all the main formats. Also someone who find web browsing as one of the 8 icons on the screen would want it to work at the initial price!

Perhaps they should have bundled them and charged a bit more.
