MP3 not recognised

My Windows XP Pro computer does not list my mp3 player in Windows Explorer
When I plug the mp3 player in I get the ding-dong sound but no box comes up saying New Hardware found.
Yet when I go into Device Manager the mp3 is listed and it says This Device is working properly.
I have tried two different mp3 players with the same result.
I have another computer running Windows XP and they work o/k on that one.

Any help appreciated.

Is your drive letter hidden ? If so do the following:

Right click on my computer and then go manage. Go to Disk Management and see what drive letter your drives have been given.

Next get Tweak Ui on that go to My Computer and drives and then tick which drive letter you need.

Re: MP3 not recognised

Still no joy on getting my mp3 player recognized.
Tried a different mp3 player still the same.
The strange thing is that I normaly have an external hard drive plugged into the same port and its o/k
I wonder where to go from here.

Re: MP3 not recognised

Hi John
Excuse my ignorance but I do not know what you mean by:
Does it show in the mounted drives in the bottom right of the taskbar?
It does not show in Windows Explorer or My Computer.
Also I have went into Disk Management via the Control Panel and it was listed without a drive letter, so I tried assigning a letter which was not in use,
It accepted the letter and displayed it.
Then when I went back to My Computer it still was not listed.
It is a USB port on the computer, actually I use the same port for an external hard drive which works fine.
As I said previously when I plug the mp3 into the port I get the musical sound but no box coming up saying: Found new hardware.
Yet its listed in Device Manager as: This device is working properly.
Also its not the mp3 player as I have tried 2 different ones.

Thanks
wallie

Re: MP3 not recognised

Yes I installed Tweak and the drive was listed without a drive letter.
I gave it letter W and it then showed: Removable drive W.
Then when I went into My Computer it still was not listed.
