Hitachi PDV-302 problem

I have a Hitachi PDV302 portable DVD player that won't start, I put a disc in turn it on and it sounds like it is trying to turn but nothing, if I take the disc out the part the disc sits on vibrates and attempts to turn but does no more than that.
Any ideas appreciated as it is a great little player when it works.
