NAS Drive that will work with a USB DVD Player?

I've recently purchased a DVD Player with a USB socket. I've connected my 2.5" USB Hard drive which works a treat playing avi's etc.

Ideally I'd like to hook up a NAS drive so I can download/rip straight to it then play via its USB on the DVD Player. Kind of a makeshift Media Centre.

I've tried a cheap NAS drive but it didnt work.

Any ideas?

I was under the impression that NAS drives share files using ethernet port connected to a router? So couldn't you try a an ethernet to USB adapter?

Plug NAS to router, then cat 5 from router to DVD player using the adapter to connetc? Don't know if it will work tho, just a thought......

Yes, thats how a NAS drive works however many come with a USB connection too. The problem is the few I've tried done seem to be compatable with the DVD players USB. I think its because the NAS Drive runs Samba and isnt just a simple USB drive?

Is it anything to do with FAT32 on the 2.5" verses NTFS formating on the NAS?

The NAS drive is fat32 not NTFS.

The only thing I can think of is that the NAS drive runs software rather than just hardware like the portable drive.
