I have a tv with no hdmi port just dvi vga scart and component rca. I connected the av cable to the component rca inputs on my tv but the picture is all blue and pink waving across the screen !! I also tried a scart adapter and still the same so i presume theres a problem with the inputs on my tv. Yet my satellite tv is connected through scart and works perfectly. It also works perfect on my other tv using the supplied av cable so its not a faulty unit. I tried hdmi to dvi last night and picture was perfect but got a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter and plugged it into the coaxial output on the cyclone 3 then used a 3.5 to 3.5mm to connect the sound but no sound :-( any suggestions ? I noticed the adapter i got has only 2 black rings compared with the coaxial cable supplied has 3 would this make a difference ?

black level too low

When watching movies from the cyclone 3 using hdmi the black level always seems too low.
I always have to manually turn the brightness up on the tv. The levels are fine on other sources on the tv.

Can the video level be altered on the cyclone 3 ?

thanks

Hi All,

I started a new thread for my question below - I should have probably just posted it here. Can anyone help:

Just bought the sumvision cyclone 3 from amazon purely for watching movies when I go on holiday.

I have about 200 films/programmes on a 2.5' external drive. I was just testing it today. Most of my films are 720p mp4 files between 2-4 Gb in size.

The thing is that some of them play fine, but some of them have very low speech. I have to turn up the volume really high to hear what people are saying, but then the background noise/music in the film is way too loud.

Would anyone know what this could be? I'm generally technically minded but I wouldn't know much about video encoding/audio tracks/bit rates etc. and all that stuff. Hopefully someone here does!

I doubt the player is broken. It must be something file-specific. For example I have AVIs of Futurama cartoons that sound perfect.

Thanks for any help!

Hello.

Can anyone tell me why I get no picture (get sound ok) with the below mkv file on my Cyclone M 3.
I tested other MKV files, and they all play fine, just this one. I can't see anything in the codec that isn't listed as supported:

From VLC:

Video
Codec: H264 MPEG-4 AVC (part10) (avc1)
language: (foreign)
Resolution: 1280x720
Frame Rate: 23.976215
Decoded format: Planar 4:2:0 YUB 10-bit LE

Audio
Codec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)
Language (foreign)
Channel: Stereo
Sample Rate: 48000

Subtitle
Codec: Substation Alpha subtitles (ssa)
Language: English
Description: ass (lol! )

Thanks in advance for any help.

Other than this 1 file type, everything else is great with this model. More than happy with it for the price.

I got one of these today, tried it on two different HDTVs and all I get is the "Sumvision" logo. It does flash up a menu for a split second but then goes away. Remote is responsive enough but only to on/off as nothing else seems to have an effect.

Tried with component and HDMI on both TVs but always with the same result, tried all of the usual power resets, leaving it connected for 20mins etc but nothing seems to make it kick in.

The obvious tv system and setup buttons do nothing either.

I can return it free of charge for a replacement but to be honest I'd much rather just get it working Any ideas?

I've got this same issue, just the logo comes up and nothing else - anyone got a solution to this?

As usual on the internet my search for help leads me to a thread which ends unsatisfactorily - thanks in advance!

I have a problem with getting audio on a Cyclone 3 through a Bose speaker system (they are computer speakers but work great on my Humax and Sony DVD player. The picture is fine but I have to rely on the Samsung Tv speakers which are poor. Currently the TV is connected via HDMI to the Cyclone3. Can I connect the Cyclone to the Bose? There is an audio in socket to the Bose but this does not give me any sound when connected directly to the Cyclone3 via coaxial. I've tried changing the audio setup in Cyclone, again nothing. Sorry, but my technical knowledge is pretty basic so if someone can tell me in simple terms that would be great. Thanks

I had this same problem - I spoke to Sumvision who basically confirmed that the device was faulty....they are aware that some devices have this problem. Send it back to be exchanged...works fine now (except for the sound issue that I just posted about!)

Hi Apano, I was interested to see you had sent yours back for exchange, who did you send it to?
The reason I ask is mine has died after 9 months, it won't switch from Standby to On, Sumvison told me to go to point of purchase but I cannot get an answer from them.
Did you send it back to Sumvision and if so do you have an address?

To answer my own question and for future reference for others the 12 month warranty for the Micro 3 that Sumvision advertise on their site is not covered by them, to quote Sumvision:

'We only offer technical support & do not stock any spare parts for replacements or carry out repairs.

Your 12 months warranty is covered by point of purchase so any faulty products you would need to contact point of purchase.'

I bought the item from iCompInkCartridges who sell through Amazon, iCompInkCartridges have not replied to my emails and Amazon only cover items bought from a third party for 90 days.

I guess the moral of this story is be careful who you buy from and warranties are not always what they seem, allegedly!

Mine was a gift bought from Impact-Computers via Amazon. They sent me a replacement the same day that they received the old one which was great. The battery for the remote was dead and already in the remote control so I am not sure whether it was brand new....but it works a treat for the cost of a new battery.

Just received one of these. Black levels are completely messed up. Tried to calibrate the thing with a calibration disc but the blacks and whites are so crushed that I can't get a shade of grey even if I turn the brightness all the way up. It's just completely black. Same video in PS3 looks just as it should, blacks whites and everything in between.

Is there a way to calibrate this device?

Anybody? I'm ready to return it to Amazon. Tried literally every picture setting in my TV, three different hdmi cables, plugged it directly in the tv or through the receiver, totally unsuccessful. Blacks are crushed and there's no way to fix them that I know of (whites are fine, by the way)

I have a micro 3 with a broken remote! Is there a universal that I can use or what can I do to get a new remote? I am in South Africa and don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Does this do photo slideshow with transitions etc?

Can I set it to autoplay the photo slideshow when powered up?

Can I ask (apologies if its been out a while) Anyone installed the updated firmware for fix for an "internal storage issue" form the Sumvision site my system info shows v3.0_Cedar111108 and have now run the update but the version number is still the same, anyone else had a go has your version not changed? Thanks

I installed it in a friend's unit. It worked fine, but I can't remember for sure if the version number changed, but I seem to remember it didn't.

Cheers Gary, have to be honest and say I've not really noticed any problems playing files from the internal storage but will give it a go and see what happens. Thanks

You'll know if you need the update because the Internal Storage option doesn't even appear on the Menu on the faulty units. If you can see the Internal storage option, chances are all is well.
