Best option to play movies from a hard drive?

I have a fairly extensive DVD library but since I converted to blu ray I found that I didn't have room for the DVDs so they went into the loft. Since climbing into my lift each time I want to watch a movie isn't ideal my thoughts were to convert them all to a hard drive so it can sit next to my tv and I can watch whenever I want. The problem I have is how do I play them on my tv? I have a PS3, panasonic BD60, xbox 360 elite and an oppo 980 which are all connected to the tv and all have USB connections, I understand that the PS3 and maybe the others require a fat 32 formatted hd and will only play a file of 4gb and under, is this a problem? I am willing to get a dedicated media player if need be but I would obviously rather save my cash and use my current set up, any suggestions on what I should use and what programs are best to fit the files on my hard drive?

Most hi def films come in between 4 and 10 gig, would recommend the western digital player, the best £69 you'll spend.
