Re: Sumvision Cyclone MKV FULL 1080p HD Player

brilliant m8,had one 2 days now .Only tried mkv 720p,mkv 1080p & divx hd 720p on it at the mo.also compressed mkv m-720p & the picture qual on all sources is excellent.
Playing on a lg ps3000 plasma & picture is superb.Getting full 5.1 dolby to my amp (hdmi in to the tv,optical out on the tv to my amp)
Will be trying vob, video ts folders,& dvd video isos tonight so will post when tested.Playing everything from a 1tb seagate external drive (ntfs),thoug have tried 1 divx hd from a 16gb pendrive and all its good apart from the fast forward/rewind is a but jittery.
Its not as pretty a box as the wd & the remote is a bit tacky tbh but for the same price its a no brainer, this plays stuff that the wd will never play & its only on the 1st firmware edition!!!

Hi mate! I have a Bush 32 inch 1080P 100hz tv which has usb ports for recording tv programs and viewing them as well directly from the hard drive. I am able to watch avi, divx, mp4 films. But because I wanted more clarity and the use of the hd tv screen, I bought the sumvision cyclone mkv hd 1080p player. It plays most formats but not the rmv, flv ones. I am not sure if it has to do with the firmware as I have not upgraded it yet. I have yet to test all of its functions. I am pressed for time as i work nights and not really in the right frame of mind when I get home. I hope this player is really what it says.

Pretty obvious but is it formatted to the correct format? Sometimes these things need to be formatted by the system itself before they recognise them.

Best conversion for MOV files to play on Cyclone player

My HD video camera records in .MOV format and I want to convert the files without too much loss of quality (full HD 1080i) to play on my Cyclone HD. Does anyone know what the best format to use would be, and what software (freeware if possible) I can use to achieve this???

Thanks

Yep same here - Youtube was enabled out of the box but fails to play - also the display is a bit weird and only shows the content after the up or down key is pressed on the remote

Unhappy Youtube Stopped working

Looks like this is a common problem.

Youtube was working perfectly, but stopped working last week (at least that's when I noticed).

The Metadata updates normally so can see all the different catorgies and listed videos; but when I try to play anything the whole system seems to freeze and I have to restart it. Other times it throws up an error message (Cannot play this media CONFIRM)

My firmware details are:
Kernel Revision: 255278
Bootcode: 0000.0202.0015
Revision: 1073_Ver2.11_091127_MS130

Though I have pressed the update button under system update; I'm not sure if it has been updated or not because I did not note down the prior version numbers.

Have been doing numerous searches on the internet but only found this particular thread discussing this issue.

Also tried finding a SumVison support site/email/telephone all without any luck. Not even on thier website. Support seems to be non-existent.

Not sure if this is a result of an updated firmware wheather youtube have changed something on thier end.

Can anyone throw any light on this?

Thanks

I tried 2 different firmware versions, same result on YouTube, media file not playable. I thought maybe router/firewall problem but everything else is fine so I doubt it.

Someone must have had this issue and fixed it ?

Maybe it's a bad batch of machines ? I bought mine a week ago too from eBuyer ... maybe a recent batch has the same issue.

This is what I was told by the manufacturer

They have said there is a problem with the You Tube site on some video files at the moment.
This is due to You tube realizing media players are connecting and they are doing it on purpose due to licensing issues

I'm having the same problem with the "cannot play media" error in youtube.

I thought it was pretty poor that I had to update my firmware to get access to youtube as soon as i got the unit out of the box. It wasn't pre-installed.

and now youtube doesn't want to work.

It's not affecting just some media files. It's every single video I try to access that comes up with this error.

Maybe it might be worth emailing the youtube people to see if they do know of anything.

But that's a smmaaaall issue. I really wanted to have something which plays every file i throw at it over wireless - streaming from my PC in HD mode and this little Cyclone MKV V2 does everything and more. amazing little thing!..

It does get hot so i'd advise you to get a laptop fan pad type of thing to place under it. works well and turns off when the unit turns off due to the power coming from the usb port.

I'll email youtube and see what they say on this issue!

bdw guys, has anyone noticed that when fast forwarding a file it does it ok, but when you press ok/play to resume playback, the video keeps fast forwarding.
The audio file doesnt actually forward at all.. it's completely out of sync and there doesn't seem to be a way of fixing this problem. i.e. by pausing/playing, rewinding a little...
whatever i do it just keeping fast forwarding.
the only solution is to not fast forward..

but then whey did they put the buttons on the remote if it's not going to work..surely someone at sumvision would have tested this first??

anyone got a fix to this?

How were you able to get hold of the manufacturer? I could not find any contact details for support. Would appreciate if you could let the rest of us know. Hopefully the more of that complain the more notice the manufacturer may take to resolve this problem.

Not too sure on the youtube licencing issues ... I tried playing some really old videos that you would'nt think had any sort of licienceing issues and they didn't play either. I think the Sumvision are just shooting in the dark.

Cheers

I also bought mine from Ebuyer about a month ago. When I bought it, youtbue videos played fine without problem.

I noticed it stopped working around a week and half ago.

I only wish I had taken down the details of the orignal firmware when it working, that way I could have ruled out a firmware update issue.

At this point the problem seems to be on the youtube side. I might take some time out tomorrow and capture some network traffic between the cyclone and youtube and see whats happening at the network level - maybe that'll give a clue to where the problem is.

Cheers

I bought mine one off Envizage Solutions Ltd so I just contacted costumer service, they send me a new firmware update which was the one I had already on my box.

Then they asked me to email them the issue and so I did, they forward my email to sumvision.com and came back to me the following day with what I just posted in my thread

I don't know if they lied to me but it's what I've been told

Cheers

Nope, I have a wired connection. Fairly sure its not network issue as other stuff over the network seems to work fine, including getting the metdata assocatied with youtube videos etc. It just the youtube videos that don't play.

I was'nt even aware that this was possible - care to share exactly how you doing it and what uPNP media server you are using?

I have the Cyclone HD V2 and have'nt observed the behavior you're describing? Does it happen for all types of Video files or is only some types? Also are you accessing the files over uPNP or via SAMBA/CIFS share?

If its over uPNP, try changing your uPNP server, some UPNP media servers are not good as others.

I've tried playing MP3 audio files over uPNP and I can't fast forward at all!

I'm using uShare as the DLNA/UPNP server.

hi all,

im interested in getting one of these or the WD media player... i want something that has hdmi out for picture and optical out (or coax even) so i can plug it into my surround sound reciever... does the sumvision have that?

ill mainly be using it to playback mkv and divx avi files and assume both of these can handle those formats with ease?

will it playback from a USB powered hard drive?

also what's the differences between this and the WD one? and are there any other similar devices i should be looking at before i buy?

thanks

Hi, anyone get a reply from Youtube or Sumvision about the non-playing of youtube files ?

Cheers

It is extremely annoying ... boast about a feature .... that doesn't work. All files don't work for me.

Morning all,

Apologies firstly for the slight deviation from the Youtube issue, of which I am also keen to find out the solution, if there are any!

After sifting through numerous reviews on various HD Media Players I have come to a decision and that is to plump for the Cyclone 1TB MKV HD Wifi Media Player. It was a toss up between that and the Iomega Screenplay. It certainly seems people have got much better things to say about the MKV.

This is the first HD media player I have bought. My question is a simple one, I hope! Does this unit allow you to use sub folders or introduce tags when transferring video files? Just I have seen the user interface of some of the other drives and they look a bit shoddy. I suppose what I am really asking is whether I will be able to browse through films on the Cyclone using a library format i.e. by Title, Genre etc...?

Would be grateful for any feedback anyone might have.

Cheers.

I don't know about tags but I used folders and subfolders - like I have folders for Series, Films, Documentaries etc.

I must say, I like this player. I have a USB powered HD plugged in for stuff I want to keep and I use wireless off the laptop for one off viewings for files I will delete later. It seems to spool high def over a wireless G network just fine. It has played everything and being able to view a DVD rip with menu over the network is just great.

I have little time to browse through TV schedules to find something I want to watch so this sort of set up is just perfect. I always have something I know I want to watch queued up so I don't waste browsing hundreds of pretty boring channels.

On demand is the future. Schedules will seem quaint.

Pity this Youtube feature doesn't work !!!!
