Exclamation Having difficulty with the Archos 604 and DVR Station

I recently purchased the DVR Station to go along with my Archos 604. I can not get it to record of the television. Pardon me as my knowledge of electronics is very limited. I followed the instruction shown on the diagram. I am connected directly to the television, as i do not use a cable box. I connected the in and out cables to their corresponding colors. When i go to the recording option on the Archos, I see an image of a TV screen and the Archos device but with an X in the middle showing that they are not connected. I try to record anyway, and on playback, see no image or sound. I have tried switching the cables around in case I had made a mistake in connecting them. Does anyone else know what i am doing wrong?? This is very confusing to me as there doesn't seem to be any more information available on the Archos manual or the instructions for the DVR device.

Re: Having difficulty with the Archos 604 and DVR Station

I have the A5 with the DVR station, so my set-up won't be quite the same as yours but for me, I connect the OUTPUT cable (scart to composite) to the output on the SKY box (scart) and composite to the input on the DVR station.....I then shove the player on the DVR and it springs to life.....

So first things first - does it come up, like the A5, with the option to Switch to TV out when you stick it on the DVR station? If it does, pres cancel.

Secondly, and not wanting to patronise - make sure the cable going into the DVR station is in the input section.....

Thirdly - if you are connecting to the TV via Scart (if the cables are similar to mine) does you TV actually output through Scart? I only ask as mine does have any outputs other than audio - the two scart sockets are input only.

Fourthly - check the settings on the record screen on the Archos - on the A5 you can change between Composite/component/s-video etc - so presume there will be similar options on the 604 - check you have the right input set...

Do you have a set-top box of any sort? You could try plugging into that to see if you get a picture.

On my set-up, once you cancel TV out, it goes to the screen you mention with the TV logo and then the picture comes up very quickly.

Hope this helps but, if not, I am sure there are other, more experienced ARHOCSers out there!

Re: Having difficulty with the Archos 604 and DVR Station

First point to check as mentioned above is does the TV have output capability on the SCART you are using?

Sometimes you may find that only one SCART on the TV has output while the other is input only.

Also check if the Archos is set to receive from 'composite' as if it is set to something else then you will see no signal. You can only do this while the Archos is in the dock and you are in the recorder application.

If that isn't it then please describe exactly which cables you are using and any adapters as Archos have at various times shipped different cables with the DVR so it would help to know if we are dealing with a fully wired SCART cable or a combination of other cables and an adapter.

For example, they have shipped 2 SCART cables in some cases with one marked 'input' the other 'output', since scart cables use different pins for input and output you can't freely interchange these.
