Chepaest Method Getting Digital Media into TV

Hi All,

I use my PS3 either wirelessly or by using one of the usb slots to play avi's etc on my large screen tv. Up stairs I have a Dlink box which streams to my tv in the bedroom.

Question is, what's the cheapest and easiest way of my kids being able to watch our digital media on their flat screen tv in their bedroom? Not really looking for wireless, more a box of tricks which they could plug a usb stick into which in turn would plug into the tv.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Some sort of media player, be it the cyclone or another make - if you have any spare HDD's laying about you could just get an enclosure and add the HDD to it - you would of course have to hook it to the PC every now and then to add new media but its hardly a chore and it will give you you a media bank of movies / pics and music

If they don't already have a DVD player there I'd look at one of the many DVD Players that have a USB port and Divx etc..

They have the option of DVD or USB then.

They've got a PS2 for dvd watching. Just a thought, but what can the USB ports on the PS2 be used for, anyone know?

I do have a spare HDD in a caddy laying about, but how would I get that to work with a TV?

Not a lot. You need a PS3 for DivX etc.. through USB and obviously that also put your into the realms of being able to stream the media directly from your PC as well.

your looking at at least £150 though for even a used PS3.

(Cracking piece of kit though )

Any ideas please? Is there some type of lead which will go from mini usb on the HDD caddy in to a TV and wouldn't there need to be some software somewhere along the line?

That wouldn't work. you need a piece of hardeware betwen the USB HDD and the TV to decode the DivX/Xvid movies.

I think Janz70 was referring to using a USB HDD with a hardware device to store your movies on.....

Ok thanks. I've had a nosey around and have come up with these products.

Nbox

Sumvision Cyclone

Any comment to make on them or can you point me to anything better?
For me it's all about price and ease of use as it's for my young teenage kids to use.

Re: Chepaest Method Getting Digital Media into TV

The HDMI usb plyer from cyclone is the same as I posted originally - you just add a USB stick or portable hard drive with your AVI's on or whatever format you have ur vid files in - even plays new HD formats (MKV's etc) out of the 2 you listed Id choose the cyclone because it play HD files via HDMI

To clear up the HDD confusion - if you have a spare hard drive you can put it in a media player enclosure like this on fleabay for about £30 and put all your movies on it. do a search on ebay for media players and media plyer enclosures there are 100's
