i have released a jailbreak for gen5 devices with 1.7.13 firmware. the details can be found here:archos-liberation-front - Project Hosting on Google Code

i dont get this what does jailbreaking ur archos do? i have a 605 is there anything i can do on mine?

General warning note.

Make mistakes with these techniques and you can very easily end up with a completely non-functional Archos.

The warnings are there on the linked sites as well but not everyone takes the time read all that they should

The point of this ultimately to allow you access to run applications other than those supplied by Archos.

This is not a method for accessing plug-ins without paying for them nor is it a commercial venture, if it was either of those the post would not be allowed on here in the first place.

MarkTaylor: thanks for the clarification. you are exactly right. this jailbreak allows you to run any code you want, whereas before it had to be signed by archos. i'm hoping we can start a open source community for these devices. that is the goal of this project.
