Archos 5 USB connection

Right, my latest query about the Archos 5 relates to connecting to the PC through USB and then removing safely. The little ICON on the bottom of the screen to allow me to ssafely remove hardware does not appear when I plug the Archos in.....so then I am not sure how to remove it safely.

Obviously I can just rip the USB cable out, but that doesn't quite feel right. Otherwise I have to shut the laptop down to feel safe.

am I being paranoid? Is there a reason the option to safely remove does not appear?

Running Vista

Cheers

Re: Archos 5 USB connection

There may well be reasons for sugesting people use the "safely remove hardware" icon, I think it mainly to do with the pc caching data whilst writing to the device and if you simply unplug it data could be lost. Personaly I have never bothered and have had no problems but then I have turned the write caching off in Windows. On page 43 of the manual for the new Archos 5 IMT it says to make sure no date is being transfered then simple unplug the usb lead from the Archos and computer.

Re: Archos 5 USB connection

Cheers mate.......to be honest, I usually wait after I have finished doing what I was doing or, if feeling particularly paranoid, switch the laptop off after transferring any data.......just didn't want to be doing something potnetially dodgy with my nice shiny new toy.......

Thanks
