Had a play around last night after work and, on first impressions the volume through my headphones (Sony MDR-XD200) was plenty loud enough - full volume was not enough to melt my brain, but it sounded plenty for car/train journeys.
However, once I had updated the firmware and put some music on, played around with the DVR dock and the telly, the volume didn't seem quite as impressive - certainly full volume now sounded like it would drowned out as soon as I got on the bus. Not usre if this was anything to do with the firmware update or just me being odd....but it felt notably different.....
Now I appreciate there are laws about volume limits and I don't want to listen at stupid levels, I just want to hear what is being played - no point having a portable media player if you can't hear it when you are using in 'portably'.....
Done some looking on here and some googling and I am now wondering whether it might be my headphones (I haven't actually tried the supplied set yet....

) The Sony set are great with the Hifi (for the money) and fantastic when watching films, but I was wondering whether the impedence (70 Ohms and sensitivity, 102 db/mW) might be limiting them slightly? This is based on what I have been reading, so please excuse my ignornance!
Would I do better to get some ear phones aimed at portable players, like the Sennheiser CX300/500 (both 16/113 ohms/db/Mw)?
I don't want to deafen myself, just need a bit of extra kick for train/bus/car journeys.
Wasn't sure if this was the correct forum for posting, so have also asked this question in the headphone section.
Thanks in advance!
