Hello friends,

I have a problem..

When turning on my Archos605 40GB I just get:
1 - The dark screen (the one you get when you start it for the first time after using the resetbutton), then after a minute...
2 - A Timeglass and it just stays like this until it autopowers off after a couple of minutes.
When i start it again this above described procedure repeats itself.
When it's attached to my pc(vista)its the same procedure apart for it just dont autopower off. On the pc it doesnt appear as an attached device.
When this problem ocurred i think that I had around 5GB free space left on the HD.
Is this a harddrive failure?
I checked among previous threads, and saw something about turning it off when attached to a pc and then press on/off +TV button to get into the repair mode. i tried the repair option without any success, so it seems like the remaining option for me would be to use the format-option, but there are som very interesting, yet unseen, documentaries(mummies of sicily, Crimean war, ancient K-opel, etc, etc, etc) on the HD, so to format the HD is the last thing I wanna do, but if its the only option I guess that i can cope with that.
It's bought i dec 2008 so I guess there's still warranty for this product, but battling with Archos is not fun/easy what I've understood from previous posts...

Unless you bought it direct from Archos your first recourse would be a return to the retailer you got it from.

I think you are stuck with a reformat as the next option if the repair has not helped, but if that fails go back to your retailer.

Hi again,

I tried the format option and now its stuck in repair mode no matter what i do and I have the text:
"Recovery(code 108)" above the different options in repair mode.

If i turn it off and start her up again, i get the "archos entertainment yr way" and then it enters repair mode as described above.

What does 108 mean?

After I made the format disc, the device said "connect to your PC and install update file"(at this stage is it already connected to my PC) but where can one find an update file?

I guess that I'll have to battle with pixmania about the warranty.

You can download the firmware from the Archos website, that will be what it needs from your PC.

The archos helpdesk also answered me and recommended to return it to the retailer, which sadly is in france..

If this is 'Pixmania' then I think they have a UK address for returns?
