Coop set to buy 632 Loyd TSB branches

This surely has to be a good thing and has the governments blessing, which is somewhat ironic given the Coop ,or rather its political wing, has been "a sister" of the Labour party since 1917.
Anyway be that as it may, it has a reputation for ethical banking which in todays world of oily wide boys ever ready to grease their own palms, may set a positive example.I have been thinking of switching over to them for some time. This move has made my mind up

I think we can assume that Lloyds will be one of the banks going bust next year. I have been considering if I should move my meagre horde into the Co-op but I'm still not certain. I'm almost of a mind to start playing the stock market, where at least there are real companies, making real things. I know that picking companies that continue to make things people want has some chance of being solid. I'm no longer certain about any bank. Remember that another Rock was the first bank in trouble.

If Lloyds (which I doubt) does go bust next year then I hope lawsuits a plenty will be launched at Brown and Co.

The HBOS takeover should never have been allowed to happen.

I changed over from Lloyds TSB last year and the wife will be doing the same this year. No change in Bank charges and the change went very smoothly including all the SO and DD. (In fact I got a rebate for the first 12 months charges as part of the deal to change)

Not having that many branches never a real problem these days with Internet or phone Banking. The only reason I need a branch is to make it easier to pay cheques in and you can do this at any Post Office anyway.

I don't think there is a general assumption about Lloyds going down the drain at all! Not unless Robert Peston goes on TV and scares everybody into withdrawing their savings like he did with N.Rock effectively banging the last nails in the coffin

Quite right about the last government mismanagement by offloading HBOS on to Lloyds - totally the ill-judged.

I do take the point that the government can only do so much bailing out and next time they may allow a bank to go to the wall.
