Re: AVForums Home Cinema Podcast : 22nd September 2007

Who is this guy from Pioneer?

Can he get his story straight 'we are a small company' 'I do big investor meeting with the Banks', 'We can invest all the resources into making the BEST Plasma', 'It's an alliance with Sharp'- no its more the early stages of a takeover.

Also can Phil please give these guys a harder time? It was fantastic that he asked them about the cost, but then he got hit with a wall of ******** that they are worth every penny blah blah, the world over says so.

Why not ask about the 100% price difference between the UK and US- lots of people on the forums have raised this. What did he follow up with..... nothing.

Hardware OEM's get such an easy time with you guys, people knock What Hi Fi but they push back more than you do- even Stuff are more hard hitting.

You are supposed to be specialists, so you should be very critical and push these guys.

That said this has been the best podcast in a long long time so a big well done

He was quite specific in stating that his company is tiny compared to the other well known panel manufacturers. In its own right, of course, Pioneer is a big company. But compared to the others in the same business...

That guy from Pioneer, if your a regular listener you will know he is the UK product manager.

Jim from Pioneer is at the show all weekend, why not pop down and ask him some questions yourself? I'm sure that not having a mic shoved in his face may give you the answers you want.

His comments if you listen to what he says are very true, Pioneer is not a massive company when you compare them to the likes of Panasonic, Sony etc they just cannot compete in terms of volume, instead they quite clearly take the more specialist role, I think he made that quite clear. Also the tie in with Sharp buying stock should also give you quite a pointer to that fact and with the extra investment both companies should be able to benefit from the deal. Plus when looking at panels its all about the technology inside and not just the price tag. And they know not everyone will buy their panel at the price, thats why they are high end, quality product priced as it should be at what it's worth to them and the market they are in, we are not in the US.

Also it's not just about asking these guys the hard questions, we have tried that before and are met sometimes with a wall of silence. There is only so much that companies are willing to discuss in a medium that goes wordwide and has them acting as a spokesperson for the company, plus there are all kinds of commercial interests that will prevent them from answering such questions. I think Alan Roser said it best, by all mean ask the questions and get technical but remember the end goal is to enjoy yourself.

Re: AVForums Home Cinema Podcast : 22nd September 2007

I haven't listened to this one yet, but i have to agree with Phil that it's a bit furitless to push a technical / product development person on pricing. I am much more interested in what's new and around the corner. As for the price, i'll just take it or leave it as is my choice

If you want a debate on pricing a targeted interview with someone responsible for that end of the business would be better - good luck !

If he is a Product Manager then he has a say in pricing. He owns the product in the market he covers- price is a pretty big part of this.

Question Podcast "Release Date"

In Zencast Organiser this podcast shows a Release Date of 22nd August, and the 20th September one shows as 20th August, so they aren't being flagged for download.
Looking at the XML http://www.avpodcast.co.uk/cast/rss_mp3.xml seems to show the same thing.
