14th July 2012

In this month's gaming podcast, in light of the summer gaming drought the team tackle the age old PC vs console debate, as well as touching on recent reviews for Spec Ops: The Line, Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor and Gravity Rush.

I like this integrated player, saves me right clicking and saving target every time I want to listen.

edit - downloading the indie game movie from steam, sounds interesting.

btw guns people just make impulse purchases hence why they have a collection of games which they probably haven't got around playing yet. I think of it similar to those people who just store and collect games, e-books or blu ray videos - maybe it's more of a hobby for them?

I was the same with the xbox making purchases from hukd because games were super cheap even if they were a genre which I didn't particularly enjoy.

Thanks for another thought provoking podcast gents.

Regarding the PC vs console debate as someone who changed from the Xbox 360 console back to a gaming PC in the last 18 months, I think what is 'best' depends on what genre of games you prefer. Neither game platform offers the perfect solution from my POV.

For example, if like me one is a bike/car racing simulation fan, the PC is the better choice for multiple reasons: software is more abundant and offers a more realistic experience, mutiplayer is free and there are many communities to join and interact with and often the developers are available to interact with too. It's also becoming more common to help beta test - upcoming simulations such as project CARS and rFactor 2 allow one to participate in beta testing with the added bonus of shaping the games direction.

Then there is the hardware choices...so many wheels and pedal sets to choose from when gaming on the PC from the quality but cheap G27 wheel and pedeal to super expensive Frex.

I'm not a keen FPS or sports game fan, so my points above are probably moot to others which reinforces my opening arguement - what is best depends on what you like to play!

Exactly. I will go where the best gaming experience is to be had. At the moment I think everyone is in agreement that in terms of pure tech, gaming is superior on the PC. Leon on the other hand is just as much a gamer (more so to be fair) but for him gameplay is key and the best platform is the most convenient or available.
AVForums is essentially an enthusiast community, generally pursuing the best or the best value experience at differing budgets. You don't have to spend a fortune to gain a higher degree of immersion but many are happy to spend over and above just to have that gain.

Brilliant podcast again guys. If I had one issue it's that it is only monthly. Would love to see this as a weekly or fortnightly podcast.
