Panasonic TH-P42V10 and TH-P50V10 Owners Thread - Part 1

Hi

I thought I'd start this thread as I'm sure someone else would have started it sooner or later. I've just placed a deposit on my TX-P50V10. Have to fone them back on Monday to get a clear idea when they expect it in. The price I was quoted, £1499 with the Panasonic 5 year warranty plus £15 delivery.

Hi

I'm waitng for this model too - as it has THX and Freesat (which is an option for the future).
Read the review - sounds v.good - i don't really care about 'gamma settings', just want a great pic out the box - and the THX mode does this fine.

However what about SD freeview pic q - not much said about this...

Hopefully i can get this for around £1500 + 5 yr warr.

Re SD Freeview pq: David more or less reiterates what he said in relation to the 42G10 he reviewed a few weeks ago. My understanding is that the V10 is the same as the G10, but with the THX mode and Viera Cast, and of course the styling

Basically, as I understand it, David recommends an external scaling device, ie one that is better than the inbuilt one. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

You've just made my day, I live in Larne (Norn Iron) and find it difficult to get anything shipped over here (as you would know) so this is brilliant news, whats makes it even better is it's my birthday!!!!

They are very good to deal with, very friendly and helpful. I will defo deal with them in the future. I'd advise to take a look in store if u can. They have a small demo area setup.

Just rang them there now, bloke said they weren't taking orders and only selling g10. I told him a friend of mine just put a deposit down for the v10 to which he suddenly said, "ah the v10, yes it is just showing up in my order book".

Just off the phone with the lad now, £1499 with 5 year panasonic warranty and I got the last one ordered aparently because they have only 5 v10's ordered to arrive end of May. Sort I'm chuffed to bits!!!

This is what's confusing me. I have a Humax PVR 9200T at the moment. Apparently the Humax 9300T has Hdmi and can upscale to 720p - Is this the sort of thing the reviewer is recommending when he talks about a "external scaling device"? I've searched on these forums for info on this and haven't found much. What would I need to buy to get the best possible SD picture with this V10 Panny?

David's comments were aimed at the lack of correct film based deinterlacing. Most TV stuff is shot on video and his comments dont apply to this, only broadcast films (SKY Movies etc..) .

If the Humax doesnt output 1080p, then it wont help much. You would have to output 720p and lose definition.

1080i broadcast film is not the same quality as 1080p BluRay, so if the deinterlacing is not perfect it's not going to make a lot of difference to the end result. As David said, a few extra jaggies.

There are lots of other TVs that dont do this correctly.

Thank you, most helpful. I really had my heart set on the V10. I'll still go to an independent dealer I know not far away and ask him to demo it, (when it comes into stock, which should be soon now).

Yes, in hindsight, you and David are probably correct, although David did indicate to me the Humax Freesat HDR would do the same job. Not to worry. Just more to think about. Thank you.

But I also think your Humax box should do an ok job. I though it would basically do what Sky HD box does, maybe Im wrong.

I don't think I'll be safe to get one of these with my Sky+ (SD) box and a normal DVD player. I don't want to have to upgrade other components just to get a decent picture.

I dont think no one was saying in wasnt a decent picture, it just could of been better. Have a look at SD on the G10. Also there wouldnt be any point going for a high-end HD tv if your mainly gonna watch SD in my opinion.

True, but you try and buy an SD television these days

I've got to buy now sadly as my CRT blew up so I'm buying for the future as well.
I need to find somewhere where I can see this telly perform with standard DVDs through a scart socket and Freeview.
