Which is bit of a pity, but as I'm not planning to put up a dish it doesn't bother me. I get my HDTV signal via my cable company.

I got mine for 1325 in the end,,not the cheapest by any means, but it was free delivery, 5 years warranty, and as it's a panasonic store, if anything does go wrong, I wont have to deal with an online retailer, which can be a nightmare.
I've found the 46g10 for 1150, but they only offered 1 years warranty and charged for delivery.
As with all consumer electronics, except the new Pioneer Kuros, prices do come down, so the longer you wait the cheaper it'll be, at some point one has to buy the thing, and now was right for me:-)

Great TV by the way, very impressed, I was about to shell out £2500 for the sony46X,which is hardly if any better for my needs, infact I think it doesnt do as ood a job, have made a few comparisons as my neighbour has the new 52X so glad I didnt, saved myself some cash too:-), do prefer the Sony remote though, the panasonic one looks cheap, but for that kind of saving I can live with it:-)

I think those old PZ81's should be cheaper because they're the same as the PZ80 but just with freesat tuner. The cheapest i could find was around £1,000, same price as g10. I would love to see the PZ81's fall down to the £700-£800 region

As I undertstand it there's no way to record in HD from the inbuilt HD tuner so it's of of little use to me anyway.

re: Panasonic G10 Owners Thread - Part 1

Well my TX-P50G10B arrived today at 1pm and was up and running by 1:45pm. First impressions...defo did NOT make a mistake, excellent PQ and style. My mate has a pio 8g which made my jaw drop and i never thought i would see the day panasonic would get this close, they really have!

I have set to cinema, warm and reduced contrast a little and will stay at that for now until i have few hours on it. Im am using SkyHD and with the picture set to auto on Sky so SD is 576p and HD 1080i i think i get the best results, previously i had Sky set to 1080i on the old TH42PX60 to get the best but his new setup blows it away completely, SD looks good (unless looking at some old content). My DVD player is Arcam DV89 with does 576p and again this looks the best i have seen it, PS3 no complaints so far and NO trails that i can see.

I ordered mine from JXL.CO.UK which i have read some worrying stories about but Dan who i dealt with has been fantastic, great customer service and easy payment over the phone, we agreed when ordered last Saturday that delivery be made today and it did. Dan kept me up to date with order confirmation, then an email to confrim dispatch along with the tracking number for City Link so 10/10 for service. I managed to catch the 5yrs warranty with them and paid £1349 with free delivery so I have respect for JXL and recommend them to anyone after the things I've read. Not sure if the 5yrs warranty is still available but you could call and confirm, regardless of this it looks like Panasonic are going to provide 5yrs from May this year so I will hold off registration until that time and maybe use thier own warranty but regardless I have the 5yrs with JXL who use the local panasonic engineers anyway.

So just to confirm JXL (0845 582 1005) are from my experience over the last week to be highly recommended

I will get some pics up soon....now where's the number for logitech cos i cant get input switching to work

re: Panasonic G10 Owners Thread - Part 1

Can someone that speaks 'Techish' please translate this section of the review!

Picture Quality: SD

Of course, there's still one problem with this setup: images from nonupconverting SD devices, and indeed, the TV's own built-in Digital Terrestrial tuner, will have to go through this lacklustre process. Perversely, I actually felt that the soft scaling helped Digital Terrestrial TV broadcasts.

Why? Well, these are sent out using the aged MPEG-2 codec at unfathomably low bit-rates, so are typically heavily softened (pre-filtered) prior to broadcast, anyway. So, the damage here is essentially minimal.

What?

If I connect my Humax 9200T PVR to this TV via scart to watch freeview, will the picture be any good? Is he saying that SD is good or bad on this TV for my setup?

Translation: SD pictures on freeview are often so bad (because transmitted at a low bitrate) that they soften (blur) them at the broadcaster's end to reduce the nasty artifacts that would otherwise show up. This TV's internal freeview tuner softens them some more but (in the reviewer's opinion) this does them no further harm.

I can't answer this because I don't have a G10. For what it's worth, I do prefer the Topfield output (v. similar to the Humax) to the internal tuner on the PZ80, by far. There are plenty of reports that the G10 is much better at SD than the PZs though. Hopefully someone else will be able to give you a better idea.

re: Panasonic G10 Owners Thread - Part 1

Well my 46" G10's arrived today - superb picture and no dodgy pixels that I've spotted! It's my first "proper" TV and a replacement for an old 32" Sony CRT which has given sterling service for 12 years.

A couple of questions (please forgive my stupidity, but as I said - it's my first "proper" TV):

I've turned the brightness and contrast down for a while - is that the right thing to do?

Also when I look at films on Sky HD there's a black band at the top and bottom of the screen where the picture's not resized into the whole screen. Is this correct? Possibly a stupid question but won't it suffer from image retention?

Thanks,

Andy

I'm using Freesat as well as Sky HD+ simply because my satellite dish has lines for both. 2 cables are needed for Sky+HD and 1 line for Freesat but they can both come through the same dish. If you don't have a Freesat cable, you can either have one added by an installer or simply not bother. IMHO If I didn't have one I wouldn't get one installed unless loads more channels were added or there was a particular service or channel I wanted that wasn't available on Sky.

Cheers,

Andy

This is how the film was shot (Cinemascope is 2.35:1 ratio). It wont cause screen burn unless you watched these all the time 24/7.
You can always zoom in, but you'll lose some of the edge detail.

re: Panasonic G10 Owners Thread - Part 1

Hi all you lucky G10 owners! I'm very seriously considering one of these and have already got sonme opinions in another thread. However, i do have a question, do any of you know if:

1) 1080p is accepted via component?
2) 1080p is acepted via VGA?

I have an older XBox 360 that doesn't have HDMI. Whilst I'll happily put the digital audio out from the 360 to my amp for 5.1, I'd like to be able to make use of 1080p. If this is only accepted via HDMI, then I really wouldn't want to have to get a new X360!

re: Panasonic G10 Owners Thread - Part 1

Love the colours and motion handling, still slightly disappointed by less than white whites.

Though I am raging at the state of the box. The TV had clearly been on its side and either laid flat or squashed at some stage. The internal polystyrene was cracked against the frame of the TV.

Due to this I keep worrying there may be a problem with the set... Can you folks please set my mind at ease (especially the installers/ISF folks)

On the sky menu there is a slight flicker in the screen.

Also I thought the screen would have been much brighter, I was coming from a temporary 4 year old LCD and the brightness seems to be on a par (though I only have contrast slightly over 55%)

Please tell me that poor handling could only cause a cracked screen?!

OH - and there is one stuck pixel in the middle of the screen - and i mean slap bang, only found it when trying to deattach my son front the front of the screen, barely noticeable though.

Talking re: Panasonic G10 Owners Thread - Part 1

Just joined the club this morning ordered a 42G10 from RS, gonna be delivered tonight

I can't wait to get it out of the box later!
I was going to wait for a 46" but I sit about 4ft from my tv anyway so I figure I'll be ok!

Good deal too

The poor handling could have potentially cracked the screen. If this hasn't happened, then you're lucky and it's almost 100% certain that the tv has not sustained any damage. The flickering from the Sky box is almost certainly the usual flaky Sky box issue. If you want brighter whites, you need to turn the contrast up much higher, but it's not advisable to do this until the screen is 'run-in' which will take a few weeks. Dead pixels are something you would have to take up with the retailer, each has their own policy on dead pixels. Panasonic alongwith all tv manufacturers do not class this as a fault.
