Pioneer 5090 Vs New Panny V10

I know we haven't seen the new Pannys yet but the 50V10 interests me, however going on the suggested RRP I can get the Pioneer 5090 for about the same price.

Any thoughts on what would be the best choice?

Obviously I am aware Pioneer are ceasing Plasma Production so do have some concerns over Warranty.

TIA.

Re: Pioneer 5090 Vs New Panny V10

I would have thought the pioneer would be the best bet and will have the better picture etc. However, having not seen the new panasonics there will be no way of telling how close they will be to the pioneer. It would appear that pioneer will still be making screens for most of this year so you should be able to wait until the panasonic is released and then make a decision then on which to get.

from what i read the KRP's is supposed to be more precise (picture wise) than the 5090, build quality is supposed to be better than the 5090 as well.....

Re: Pioneer 5090 Vs New Panny V10

Hi,

My opinion is that the Panny V10 will have a bunch of features that the Pioneer lacks (they may or may not be important to you), the Panny may be brighter but even if the two sets were even or extremely close in HD PQ, I think the Pioneer will thrash the new Panny V10 on SD performance. Obviously the blacks on the Pioneer will outclass the Panny as well. If you do not need or want the new features (some of which are really groovy), just go with the Pioneer. Someone knowledgeable on another forum stated that the new Panny NEO-PDP's will have black levels of 0.02/0.03 cd/m2 (remains to be seen) which I understand is extremely good but not even close to that of the G9 Kuro. I fear that the Pioneer were the last "complete" TV's we will have seen - that is, they offer the best possible picture quality on both HD and SD stuff. To be honest, I do not think Panny will ever offer the level of processing Pioneer did but that's just my take on things!

Suave!

Re: Pioneer 5090 Vs New Panny V10

Surely Panny have to catch up with the Kuro standard sooner or later, technology moves on, its just a matter of how long it takes, someone speculated the new Panny's maybe upto the Kuro 8series I think

You also have to question what Pioneer will do with their current technology because I can't see them doing nothing with such an asset, possible license it out? Mass produced Kuros?

The only problem is less and less companies are in the plasma market, will the lesser competition reduce standards?

Re: Pioneer 5090 Vs New Panny V10

Panasonic VX100 is due out soon more expensive but hopefully a new flagship highend display to replace the gap left by Fujitsu Pioneer started getting there with the KRP models but still fell short.

Re: Pioneer 5090 Vs New Panny V10

Putting Kuro aside for a minute, what about the new G10 tech (what was it called, Figa/Figo/Fugo?) they had just developed, any company with losses the size of Pioneers is going to want to claw back any revenue they can so i would be mightily surprised if we did not see Kuro and G10 tech in some shape or form again.

i own a pioneer 4280XD(G8 series) and a PZ85 and the PZ85 is more than a match for the pioneer,in fact i prefer the panny for HD material it just looks sharper and the pioneers blacks are only slightly better,so im pretty sure the new pannys will be way better than the 8 series pioneers.

Re: Pioneer 5090 Vs New Panny V10

Thanks for the comments - I guess PQ is the most important feature in HD and SD. Sound is not important as it goes via my Arcam and nor is freeview/freesat as I use Sky HD.

Hmm so maybe the Pioneer is the one then as I am not sure I'll use many of the features on the new Panny - PQ is the thing for me.

I assume the Pio 5090 would be a worthy upgrade of my Panny 50PX60.

I'd like the 500M/A but cannot justify the extra cost - unless it really is worth the several hunderd £'s more?

Hi,

They will be able to match G8 blacks but that about all - on SD a G8 Kuro will thrash any of the new Panny's (imo) and the new Panny's will not be anywhere close to a G9 Kuro by a long shot on either SD or HD, just my opinion!

Excuse my ignorance but is the G9 series include the 5090 and 500A?

That's right. The 5090, 6090, 500A and 600A are the UK's 9th Generation models.

Have to agree with the sd on the 42in G8 that the pq is stunning but i prefer the HD picture on my panny the pioneers picture is to soft for my liking, dont know if its the full hd that makes a difference.

Is there any evidence to back up this assertion?
And it remains to be seen how Panasonic's top of the range Z series performs.

Put a few more 0's after the decimal point and you will have the 9G level. The only tvs to beat this are some of the LED backlit LCDs, but they can only do this by switching off areas of LEDs, whilst the Pio is just that good at dimming the plasma cells.

I do find it slightly strange that people comment on something that they have not seen or that has not been generally reviewed. The pio mya well be better but lets wait and actually see. A number of the replies in here smell of brand loyality rather than actual knowledge.

Re: Pioneer 5090 Vs New Panny V10

From reviews of the Panasonic VX100 (the VX100 range sits above the PF11 series in the Panasonic commercial plasma range) I believe the contrast ratio of these is around that of an 8G Pioneer. There's no way the Panasonic consumer range of plasmas is going to be better than the VX100.
