Angry 42IN Phillips Plasma will not power on

does any one know of a common reason that will cause this television not to power on. Red light comes on and that is as far it gets.

Re: 42IN Phillips Plasma will not power on

Could be a number of things, PSU failure or even just a popped capacitor. Need to get a technician to take a look.

Re: 42IN Phillips Plasma will not power on

I was told by a tech that it was the y sustain board, I exchanged the board and it still will not power on.

Have look at this thread.

It would also help if you posted the model number.

This model suffers from faulty capacitors in the power supply unit, it would be a good idea to remove the power supply panel and have the capacitors replaced. I have listed some of them and values I could find.

C48 X-SUS Panel
C49 10uF 16V X-SUS Panel

C2133 22uF 25V PSU
C2210 47uF 25V PSU
C2663 100uF 63V PSU
C2664
C2540 100uF PSU
C2541 100uF PSU
C2508 100uF PSU

I hope this helps good luck with the repair.

I have three panels in the back the y sustain sits to the left, which I have already changed out and the x sustain sits to the right, is the x sustain considered the power supply and is this where the capacitors are located.

Re: 42IN Phillips Plasma will not power on

The PSU will be connected directly to the mains input. Do you have any photos?

I hope the following picture will help, it show a x-sustain board on the right, a middle board and the Y sustain on the left. I hope this helps so you can tell me which board you are talking about.

Re: 42IN Phillips Plasma will not power on

I'm no electronics expert but those caps look in good condition. I guess I was expecting something with a bit more clout for a PSU although there are those 3 coils there which might be small transformers. Anyone know what those things are? Where does the AC come in relative to that picture?

The board pictured in the centre is the power supply
Bottom left next to the main fuse, blue and brown cable into the white plug. I have not got a circuit diagram to hand but I would guess they are mains filter coils for the various power supply sections. The only way to test a capacitor is by an ESR meter as they do not always bulge at the top.
