Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread part deux

Input question for the 5090 anyone? I need use of 3 HDMIs, 2 SCARTs and a component plugged in for various devices, but it seems that these inputs can't be selected easily by flicking through the list of inputs like one does with most other TVs?

There are 5 selectable inputs on the remote, one dedicated (I think) to the temp input on the side of the panel, leaving me with only 4? from the rear selectable when I need 6.

How is it possible for me to use my 6 devices plugged in (I don't need to use the third SCART) and select between them without going into the menu system and going through a pile of enabling/configuring/changing inputs to watch the things I have plugged in? First TV I've come across like this where one seemingly can't select what you have plugged in by pressing an AV select button once.

If it can't be done (crazy), will the KRP-A allow this thru the media box with all its inputs or is there a problem there too? I'm quite flexible as a KRP can be ordered if absolutely necessary as I took the precaution of getting my 5090 from John Lewis who will pick it up at their expense within 28 days for a full refund for any reason.

Otherwise, this 5090 is quite astoundingly brilliant in most areas compared with my Panasonic PX70. The SD thru HDMI is far better than I ever expected, but very poor through SCART (much worse than my PX70) even with Bumtious settings applied throughout. SCART is much better to use for SD if the TV can process it well due to aspect ratio auto select/retention which HDMI can't hold. The blacks really are to die for with this Pioneer. I've been running various high quality Sky HD stuff (like Zulu) simultaneously with the Pio next to my PX70, one being fed by HDMI, the other through SCART from the box. Astonishing TV, but shame about the poor SD through SCART.

Any advice/tips on my apparent input problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mate.
You've just got to try and setup your Inputs as best you can if you've got a lot connected though then a trip to the menu screen (manual change) can't be helped.
Components fine as you can whack that into Input 2,HDMI will take 1,3 and 4 so Scart will have to share with 2 of the HDMI's.
All the best.

Thanks King Do you know whether the KRP-A can directly select what is plugged in or is the same problem there?

Spoke to Tony from TLC a couple of weeks ago about a KRP-M and buying a Pio PDA-V100HD
HD AV Converter to take care of a pile of inputs although it only has 1 SCART. Pioneer - PDA-V100HD - HD AV Converter- Pioneer Plasma TV, Pioneer

Is this (or a similar product etc) a good solution do you think for easy switching for a pile of devices into a KRP-M? I know you've had the 9G and KRP Would it then be simple to 'one or two button press' with this plugged into a single HDMI on a 5090 or KRP-M for all my devices? Any experience of decent convertors like this for people with many devices?

You will have the same problem if you have too much stuff going in.
All my switching is done via my amp no scart connection though.
Not sure about converter boxes so will leave to someone else.
All the best mate.

Gawd, that's a shame about the KRP-A too. Total pain. TL at TLC thought convertors like this were the way for people buying KRP-M's who didn't use an AV amp and had lots to plug in, just wanted to see if others had any experience with them.

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread part deux

Hi guys....

I watched a lot of football on my new 5090 this weekend and I think I've found a quirk.....I'm watching it on Sky SD (Skysports) - RGB Scart.

Every now and again the picture completely slows down, digitialised as if I'm watching in slow motion - then it catches up again and works fine again....during a match it happened about 3 times and lasted for about 5 seconds...

Is it the TV or is it the source?? :-/ I'm confused.... is this what you call judder? Will it get better?

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread part deux

Hi All,
Just got my 5090 delivered this morning 5 mins before I left for work. I'm going to have to wait until the evening before I can even open the box!

Quick question which I don't think has been addressed on this thread or in a review. What is the sound quality like for the side mounted speakers? I know that it will be rubbish compared to 'real' external speakers (I do plan to connect to a pair of Tannoys using my trusted NAD stereo amp for watching movies) but the majority of the viewing will be through the Pioneer speakers.

How does the TV compare to other makes of TV and is the sound any good?

Appreciate any feedback and I will check back later as I have to try and do some work now

I have under speakers and have to say I'm very impressed.
Will be using these for a while till I get a new receiver. The only thing I miss is the big bass rumble through my body.

Hi guys,

Just read this on review of the 5090 on the web

"Unlike some Kuro models, the PDP-S63 speaker bar is the only add-on that’s compulsory"

What does that mean? Do you have to have the speakers on even if you are using a separate system?

I don't think it's any different than any other undermount speaker.

SD picture quality should not be poor through scart as long as it's RGB. Make sure the tv scart input you are using is set to rgb in the 5090s menu as well as in your device' output (don't forget, one of the tvs scarts does not support rgb)
When the tv is receiving an rgb signal it will show as such in the 'info' window.

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread part deux

Still need some help guys with this Wii problem, the kids aint happy and there getting Mario Kart for christmas .Basically i have my V+ box and ps3 going to my amp and then a hdmi cable from my amp to the tv via input 4 as i believe this is the only one enabled initially. This all works fine, no problems.i have tried connecting the Wii to the input 5 terminals via the standard Wii composite cable and get nothing, i cant choose the input as its greyed out and unavailable with current settings.I have since tried one of the scart adapters for the component cable in scart input 1 and again nothing and cant access the input select. So out of curiosity i attatched the V+ hdmi straight to input 1 of the tv but again cant activate it due to current settings.I have tried the manual many times but its not helping. It seems that only input 4 is working and i cant activate anything else.Tell me its something simple im doing wrong please .

Enabled the Inputs?
Home menu > Option > HDMI Input > Setting > Enable.

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread part deux

A few days into a 5090 and gradually getting used to it

Current problem though is sound leakage :

Input 1 is Sky+ SD via Scart / input 3 is Humax Freeview PVR / Scart / input 4 is Samsung Blu-Ray / HDMI

Whilst watching any of these through the otherwise excellent under speakers there is considerable leakage of sound from the terrestrial channel hooked-up via the tv's signal even if the TV Freeview is the last used

ANy suggestions please ?
