I'm still happy with my PW6 am I in a minority ?

My PW6 is still going strong, and when people come over to my house they often start cooing over my HD telly. How do I get that HD picture of a standard Sky+ box ?

I know I could get a better picture with an upgrade, but am I in a minority by still being really happy with my panel after 3 years ?

Not at all, the PWD6 is a great panel. Unfortunately, I will be selling mine (for peanuts) due to a big change in circumstances.

Probably my best AV purchase made, like you everyone who sees the panel thinks it is the business.

Re: I'm still happy with my PW6 am I in a minority ?

I had a 42PW5 for 6 years in the lounge.

Only last week have I relegated it to another room (for my son to play Xbox 360 on).

I bought a 2nd hand 42PWHD6 and it is an improvement over the PW5 (being only a SD panel), however I'd happily choose either of these displays many newer plasma panels/TV's.

As for LCD's, don't get me started

Re: I'm still happy with my PW6 am I in a minority ?

I "used" to have a PW6 until 4 weeks ago until it broke down (Digital PCB or something like that and the repair shop said it will cost over £800 to fix).

I did plan to keep it for many years as I was still impressed by the picture quality etc.

At the moment I am using a 19" Samsung LCD (until I buy a new TV) and I feel sky SD seems to be slightly better - unable to calibrate the LCD TV as there are no options.

If you are happy with it then stick with it - mine will be sorely missed

Personally I have never liked the silver finished panels. But I've got to say you aren't going to find a silver anything anywhere! White is the new silver, with Pioneer Kuro and JVC DS9 leading the march on special edition white gloss screens (which are actually quite stunning to look at). For me though plasma should be black. It's a 42" piece of black glass, I find a black bezel just disappears with the glass instead of draws more attention to it when off.

I just recently sold my pw6, after upgrading to a Pioneer 50 incher.

Had to think long and hard about the upgrade, as the PQ on freeview did not impress me as much as I was hoping. The colours and blacks are better on the pioneer, however image processing seems better on the pw6. Hard to say which one is better, as each screen has its own character.

Also, I guess its not too fair comparing freeview on 42inch vs a 50 incher.

DVD and Hi Def is a reasonable improvement, with the bigger screen providing a more cinematic experience.

Would have kept the pw6, but didnt have the space for it. They go for pretty silly money, considering the quality of the picture they produce, certainly better on SD than the PX70 and Samsung plasma's I was looking at buying...

Cheers!
Daniel.

Re: I'm still happy with my PW6 am I in a minority ?

I've the same problem. I've got a nearly 3 year old Panasonic 50" and I saw a 58" in Comet on Saturday, it was playing a hi def something or other but the quality was awsome. I felt like putting an order in there and then.
Decisions, decisions.
When I'm not cooing over the new stuff, my 50" is still a lovely bit of kit and still wows all that behold the thing..

Re: I'm still happy with my PW6 am I in a minority ?

When I 'upgraded' to a 50" plasma, I decided to put the PW6 in the conservatory rather than accept the peanuts I'd get for it. Obviously, it handles SD material (especially the lower bitrate stuff) better than my 720p set, but isn't quite as good on HD. Having said that, I only made the new purchase for a bigger size. If 42" is the biggest you can go, stick with the PW6 unless you plan to view HD material for over 50% of your viewing!

Re: I'm still happy with my PW6 am I in a minority ?

The ONLY REASON I would upgrade is due to size, I would like 50/58"!!

The 6 panel surely has to be the best panel ever?
Apart from infamous red light of death which cos a oncer to repair it is still going strong!!
And looks great with HD from Sky!!

Oakboy,

What is the red light of death on the PW6? My PW6 switches on, a number of vertical lines comes on the screen and then the red light flashes 3 times then goes solid red and teh screen goes black
