What are the best settings to have it on. Tried it out on SD looks a bit crap not as good as the PV500 it has replaced. The HD on blueray on the other hand really does look fantastic good colours etc. The sound is excellent to. It does seems a little jerky on blueray to me what is the best setting etc. I know the Pioneer is better but hey at £1550 it comes in way less than a £1000 less money

I currently have a pz85b and have it set to cinema mode and brightness etc all set to 50%.

SD from my sky box looks pretty good. Built in freeview looks soft.

As with most Panny plasmas, Cinema/Warm seems to be the best settings. See the HD TV Test review

I am beginning to doubt whether WARM/CINEMA is the way to go.

Have a look at this PX70 settings thread.The post most interesting is one half way down by Bumtious.

I have mine on cinema and Normal. Did you check to see if IFC is on or off? It doesn't work so well in SD mode so you better turn it off.

I can't understand why your SD picture would be crap, My Pz800 is much better than the PZ80 I have downstairs. Just leave it 200 hours then see what it's like.

It does look a little yellow to start with. But the AV Forum review of the PZ81 (Phil Hinton) confirmed Cinema/warm was closest to D65 you could get without using the service menus.
It does to me bring out the most detail in the dark scenes.But like everything, you have to adjust it to what suits yourself.

I have recently turned my PX70 to cinema and warm, and it did take some getting used to. Now without flicking between the settings, warm and cinema look fantastic. As stated above, it just takes a little getting used to.

I doubt that the PZ800 will ever look as good with SD as the PV500. The PV500 was introduced before there was any HD around, hence the need for a great SD picture, it also has a lower resolution which requires less scaling, has adjustable noise reduction and was built before the drive to reduce component costs/quality and hence prices.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that review.I will give CINEMA/WARM another go.I have always used this combination for all my Panasonic TV's but after reading the post about the PX70, it put me off a liitle bit.

thanks for all the info. What is IFC best for do alot of ps3 gaming also. Any simple ways of explaining what colour management settings etc.
ps how good does my old pv500 look as a bedroom telly

IFC probably best for DVD/BluRay movies, smooths out any jerkiness. But some film buffs dont like it. It's a bit like marmite - love it or hate it.
