from 50" to 60" it is the time!

Hello.

Sadly after one year and 2 months; my 50px70 is now looking too small to my eyes.

Every time i am watching football i cannot stop my self of imagining bigger screen over there!

Now after some quick search and according to my budget i have three options:

1- Samsung PS63A756 ....... £2560

2- Lg 60PG7000 ....... £1760

3- PANASONIC TH58PZ800 .. £ 2900

I personally liked the way LG looks and the connectivity it has; also buying 5 years warranty with it; means that you can have 60" full hd with amazing picture + peace of mind for £2000; which sounds for me Fantastic.

I love Panasonic but i think that LG especially the 7 series are not bad TVs at all; i have played with pg7 series and compared it to the panny next to it and to my eyes there were no big difference in the quality.

So now guys what do you think? Any suggestion would be most appreciated.

Many thanks

If your budget is £2000, doesn't that make the LG your only option of the three you list?

Re: from 50" to 60" it is the time!

I've had 60 & 65 inch screens in the past and tbh it didn't make that much of a difference for football watching to my eyes. I didn't get that "Wow" it so different.

Watching films though certainly seemed to benefit from the increase in size more imo.

Just a thought for whats it worth - maybe a pj (Full HD under 1k now) for football, films etc and your plasma for everyday tv watching. You could be watching football on a 100" screen which believe me has that "Wow" factor

Re: from 50" to 60" it is the time!

I had my heart set on the PS63A756, until i saw the power consumption was greater than 750W. This is pretty good for this time of the year as it's guaranteed to keep your living room warm, but it won't do your electricity bills any favours. Why not add another one to the mix
LE55A956. Slightly smaller than the rest and an LCD, but it's LED backlit, so really deep blacks, with brighter colours than plasma and less than a third of the power consumption... Just a thought...

Agreed! In fact you don't even need full HD. 720p sufffices for footy HD. Euro 2008 in HD looked awesome on a 92" screen....

Try one, if you don't like it send it back (you'll have 7 days if you purchase online) - you might find that you get that wow factor for a lot less than £2000.

The bit in bold you will not get with that LG, they are not particularly great, and would be a downgrade picture quality wise over your panasonic.

Fair enough you want a big set, but have you thought of sticking with a 50 and going for something like the pioneer 5090. The picture quality is unrivalled at the price and is the best picture you can get except for the KRP pioneer panel which is also more expensive. I ahve never seen football look so good, and through the inbuilt freeview, BBC footie looks sensational.

What point is a massive screen if the quality is crap ?

Also what distance do you sit from the set ?

Best bit of advice on this thread so far. Here's a sneak peek of one image from my review of the PG7000 due in the next day. (Both ISF calibrated).

Phil, I think you should switch the names around on those pics, LG marketing claimed infinite contrast with the new PG7000 set
