Hi. Apologies if this question has been done before but I'm a forum virgin.

Basically I'm not sure whether to go for the 508XD and get a receiver and speakers or go for the LX5090 and get the receiver/speakers when more dosh is available. Viewing will be at 10.5 feet so I'm not sure whether the extra detail etc of the LX5090 will be able to be clearly seen.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

I had the same dilema.

Check my spec for what I chose

Search for 'demo fun @ tlc' and you will find a thread I made on the demoes I had of the 2 and the choice I made.

Brilliant, that was really useful. I think I would be better spending the saved money on a receiver and speakers so as to have a proper set-up.

Hi,

You won't see extra detail with the 5090 at that distance, but you will get better blacks (and consequently higher contrast ratio) and quieter (i.e. less noisy) image. The LX will be a better picture due to these things.

I suspect you'd be happy with either, but like everything, the LX is better than the XD. If you're the sort happy with what you have then get the XD, if you're the sort that hankers after the best every time or walk around thinking "If I'd spent more, would I have enjoyed the picture more?", then get the LX.

Put it this way, the LX5090 is about the best you can get (although the KRPs are a slight improvement evidently), the LX508 (last years) the next best and the 508XD just below that.
