cracked samsung plasma screen need advice

Hello,
I've been given a Samsung PS-42S4S plasma tv which has a cracked inner screen. I've plugged it in and everything seems to work fine (sound,front panel lights) just no picture. I have been researching and seems that the replacement of the plasma panel is very expensive. But I have also seen samsung 42" plasmas with good panels(just bad boards or power supplies)on ebay and such that are very cheap. So the question I guess would be, How does one find out what panel is compatible with another panel, even if it's a different model? Or is it even worth the time, money and effort to try to get this samsung to work?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look inside my old Pioneer HDE435 to get an idea................

Personally what with this TV being an older generation, non HD ready one it wouldn't really be cost effective to have it repaired.
You could, if you have a good home contents insurance policy, damage it yourself moving it and get a new(er) HD ready set for the price of your excess..

I hope you meant this as a joke, nobody should encourage fraud, it's you & me who have to pay for it with higher insurance premiums.

No need to apologise, I did take it as a joke but we have to be careful here, we don't want to ruin our great reputation here where everyone is so law abiding & honest.
